Hundreds of bikers hit the streets in Raha on Saturday demanding the proposed AIIMS hardly a month after Dispur gave the Centre the green signal to set up it in North Guwahati.
Thousands of people in the entire area came out in support of the prgramme took out by the Biker Association of Raha reiterating the demand to shift the AIIMS venue from North Guwahati. The progamme was named Ride of Rights - AIIMS for Raha suggesting more and more protest in the pipeline.
Biker Association president Mrinal Saikia and Amrit Hazarika took the lead to be joined by hundreds others even from Nagaon after it began at Raha PWD Inspection Bungalow at 11 in the morning.
The protestors halted in front of Nagaon Deputy Commissioner's office where they submitted a memorandum to DC through ADC Brajen Das.
Talking to the Assam Times the organizers said that Nagaon is situated in the middle part of the state and there is no premier health institute in the district.
“Therefore, we would appeal to the authority to set up the AIMS at Raha. It would be able to easily serve the population of many districts including Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Sonitpur, North Lakhimpur and states like Nagaland, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh.”
