It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..
BJP workers in Uriamghat seized a vehicle belonging to a top NSCN-IM militant in full view of a CRPF patrolling party on Thursday. The Maruti WagneR bearing No NL 07C 6233 was seized by a group of BJP workers from Chetiagaon at around 2 in the afternoon. Talking to Assam Times, a BJP worker who took the lead to intercept the vehicle said that they came to see the car plying in the troubled –hit area at noon and that as they moved towards the vehicle, three persons managed to escape leaving the car on the road. Some arms have been recovered from the vehicle in question which was later handed over to police. Investigation is going on.
Two BJP legislators have toured the troubled torn Uriam Ghat on Thursday two days after suspected Naga miscreants killed two local residents at a clash where they further set on fire at least 14 houses. MLAs Ranjit Kumar Das and Jadob Deka arrived in Chetiagaon and talked to the top civil and police officials to take stock of the situation in the wake of the clash. The Assam government blames it all on the NSCN (IM) escalating tension along the Assam-Nagaland border in Golaghat district. Dispur has already sent its report to the Centre saying that the insurgent outfit has been fomenting trouble along the border for the last couple of years. Additional central security forces have landed in the trouble torn areas to contain the situation. Massive waterlogging disrupts normal life in Guwahati again on Thursday following the incessant rains that lashed the city in the wee hours. Rainwaters have submerged Lachitnagar, Chandmari, Anil Nagar, Nabin nagar, Bhangararh, Christianbast, Dispur early in the morning. Parts of the Guwahati-Shillong Road have also come under the rainwaters making it almost difficult for the vehicles to ply in the morning.
The Centre has assured Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi of more security forces to contain the burning situation along the Assam-Nagaland border a day after the Naga miscreants killed two local people in Uriam ghat in Golaghat district. Japanese Encephalitis has so far claimed 122 lives so far apart from six who lost their lives in malaria this year. The Assam government disclosed in the assembly that altogether 1,567 persons have been affected by Acute Encephalitis Syndrome this year till August 6. The figure includes 606 victims of Japanese Encephalitis.
Assam grapples with at least 9,100 HIV positive cases.Minister Nilomoni Sendeka informed the Assembly on Wednesday that as on March 31, 2014 Kamrup Metro district, which mostly comprise the Guwahati city, tops the list with 3,570 affected persons. He said that Guwahati is followed by Cachar district with 1,866 victims.According to him, Dibrugarh has 630 cases, Nagaon 418, Golaghat 304, Karimganj 272, Sonitpur 252, Bongaigaon 228, Karbi Anglong 207 and Jorhat 207. He further disclosed that Chirang district does not have a single case of HIV case so far.
Nagaland has appealed to the people of border areas to exercise restraint to help both the states restore normalcy at an earlier date. Home Minister Y Patton and Lok Sabha MP from the State Neiphiu Rio said since there is a Supreme Court appointed mediator for amicable settlement of the issue, the people should cooperate in maintaining peaceful atmosphere in the border areas so as to facilitate an acceptable solution for both the States. The government on Wednesday proposed to hike the salaries and allowances of Chief Minister, Ministers, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Leader of Opposition and all present and former MLAs by over 90 per cent. The hike has been proposed with immediate effect. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Nilamani Sen Deka tabled five amendment bills in this regard in the Assam Assembly on behalf of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. According to The Assam Legislative Assembly Members' Salaries, Allowances and Pensions (Amendment) Bill, 2014, total remuneration of a sitting MLA would go upto Rs 1,83,824 from the existing Rs 96,600.
