It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

Nagaland has appealed to the people of border areas to exercise restraint to help both the states restore normalcy at an earlier date. Home Minister Y Patton and Lok Sabha MP from the State Neiphiu Rio said since there is a Supreme Court appointed mediator for amicable settlement of the issue, the people should cooperate in maintaining peaceful atmosphere in the border areas so as to facilitate an acceptable solution for both the States. These are out of 59,500 Bangladeshis immigrants detected as per the Assam Accord, 1985. This was what the government admitted in the assembly on Wednesday. The uneasy calm refuses to die down along the Assam-Nagaland border areas in Golaghat district a day after Naga miscreants killed two people apart from torching at least 50 houses in five places. Hundreds of people from B sector in Dhansiri sub division in Golaghat district bordering Nagaland are leaving their homes fearing attack by the Naga miscreants who shot dead two local residents on Tuesday. Hours after the rape of a minor girl by two culprits, Lakhimpur police arrested a hospital staff acting on a molestation complaint lodged by a patient. The incident took place on Monday where a woman patient was allegedly molested by a laboratory worker during an X-ray examination at Lakhimpur Civil Hospital. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi strongly recommends Bharat Ratna for Dr Bhupen Hazarika. Sources told Assam Times that in his recent letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gogoi requested him to confer the country's highest civilian honour to the cultural icon posthumously. Two small tea growers sustained injury when a group of NDFB(S) militants attacked them in Sonitpur district on Monday. According to information, a group of four armed militants attacked the tea planter at Mainasiri in Urahaloga in the wee hours for failing to pay the money they demanded earlier. Identified as Baula Basumatary and Rugi Basumatary, the duo have been undergoing treatment at the Rangapara hospital.
