2 dead in Golaghat border shoot out

An uneasy situation prevails in Dhansiri area in Golaghat district along the Assam-Nagaland border after suspected Naga miscreants shot dead two local residents on Tuesday.

The shoot out took place at a clash over a plot of land measuring 25 bighas in B Sector where the miscreants who were believed to have been hiding in the Nagaland side started indiscriminate firing leaving two seriously injured.

Identified as Chintamoni Barhoi and Phusu Karmakar, the duo succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital.

The entire incident has forced the authorities to fan security forces in the area.

Local residents told Assam Times that they have been receiving threats from a section of the miscreants at regular intervals.
