It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

Ravaging storm hits again

Surface communication remained heavily disrupted after a heavy storm lashed parts of the state on Tuesday. The storm hit half of the state at 5 in the evening damaging houses and uprooting many trees on the roads.

Dipti tops ACS exam

 Dipti Moran tops state civil service examination as the Assam Public Service Commission declared the resuls on Thursday. The commission has selected 60 candidates for ACS junior grade post while 90 have been selected for Assam police service. These are apart from 30 other for allied services. 

Gogoi does Kejriwal

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi did an Arvind Kejriwal when he led a protest rally in Guwahati alleging centre's policy that would make the state more poor. Gogoi along with several other party leaders held a rally at Latashil playground on Tuesday. Talking to reporters, Gogoi said that the curtailment of central share in the various schemes would hamper the process of development in near future. "We must get justice. We have been demanding an appointment with prime minister. But we have not received any response," he said.

Tremors struck again

Three back to back tremors struck no less panic on Tuesday forcing the authorities to sound alert across the state.The state rattled at 12.37 when a 7.4 magnitude originated in Kathmandu. This was followed by the second one tremor which was of mild 3.4 intensity in Richter scale at 1.20 in the afternoon. No respite for Rumi Nath

There seems to be no respite for Rumi Nath as the Gauhati High Court has rejected the Borkhola MLA’s bail plea on Tuesday.After examining the police case diary on Tuesday a division bench of the high court rejected her petition. The government told that court that bail, if granted, would hamper the investigation which has reached its crucial stage.The Borkhola MLA was arrested on April 14 wee hours alleging her nexus with notorious car lifter Anil Chauhan. The lower court on Monday rejected her bail in yet another case.   

Dutta sharpens attacks on NDA

Congressmen in Sivasagar held huge rallies in protest against NDA policies that would leave the state dire straight in near future.The party leaders and activists in all districts took out protest march in the headquarters alleging that Assam is losing special treatment. Participating in the rallies Congress leaders told Assam Times in Guwahati that Prime Minister Narendra Modi must understand Assam and its people.“We want the U turns to be stopped immediately. Dissidence resurfacing in Cong

Simmering dissidence seems to have resurfaced in Congress legislative party hardly a year before the assembly polls. This time the entire high voltage drama centres around Speaker Pranab Gogoi.Sources in New Delhi told Assam Times that chief minister Tarun Gogoi being aided and abetted by PCC president Anjan Dutta are in a mission to unseat Pranab Gogoi as Speaker.“The development is in crucial stage with party high command. Poacher held in Jakhalabandha

Police claimed to have found some clue on non stopped rhino poaching in Kaziranga when they held a person in Jakhalabandha on Tuesday. Identified as Abdul Hamid, he was arrested from his residence during a late night operation.
