It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

A police constable sustained injury when a person fired upon at a joint team of police and para military forces mistaking them to be Naga miscreants in Karbi Anglong district on Tuesday.The incident took place during in the wee hours where a combing operation was underway near Diphu bordering Dimapur.As the gunman came to see the joint team they started indiscriminate firing where constable Pranab Bora sustained injury on his hand corner of his chest. When retaliated with firing one person was killed.Identified as Debo Fonglo, the local resident fired upon the security forces mistaking them to be the Naga miscreants. Amid blamegame over the SAF games, chief minister Tarun Gogoi dared union sports minister Sarbananda Sonowal to help him hold the international event in Assam.Addressing the anniversary rally in Guwahati on Sunday, Gogoi said that he is prepared to host the event provided he receives adequate fund from the centre."It was my government who held the national games and as a result today we can host any international sports event," said Gogoi a week after Sonowal blamed him for failing to host the SAF Games.

The Northeast Frontier Railways on Sunday cancelled ten trains a day after the two coaches Siphung passenger train fell on a river near Kokrajhar. NFR officials told Assam Times that works are on to restore the damaged portion of the bridge forcing them to cancel ten trains including Kamakhya-Alipurduar Siphung express, Mariani-Guwahati passenger train, New Jalpaiguri-Dekargaon passenger train. These trains would be restored from Tuesday.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi came down heavily on Union Finance minister for alleged curtailment of central funds. Gogoi blamed it all on Jaitley saying why he accepted the new finance commission which suggested the centre to curtail central share. He further blamed Narenra Modi for the impendng financial crisis. Jaitley on Saturday said the centre hasnot curtailed the fund and that the central fund share. "We are following the recommditions.
