The All Assam students Union has blamed it all on Delhi and Dispur for the uncomfortable situation of the Numligarh Refinery which is running a huge Rs 500 crore loss forcing it to hike the price and petrol and diesel.
AASU leaders here say the government is doing precious little to resolve the problems of the refinery proposed in the historic Assam Accord, 1985. They have alleged that the situation could have been averted has the Assam government ensured 26% stake of the refinery instead of the current 10%. The student body said the Centre has never been seriously dealing with the situation which can announce Rs 1,38,000 crore subsidy for Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and BPCL.
The AASU leaders also have demanded that the move to hike the price of petrol and diesel should be stopped and asked the government for subsidy for the refinery in the line of IOCL, BPCL,HPCL with 100 per cent exemption of excise duty and also crude oil sales tax.

Supreme Court on Wednesday talked of two options before the government to end the decade old Assam-Nagaland border row.
