Janajati mancha opposes ST proposal

The Janajati Suraksha Mancha has strongly opposed the BJP-led NDA govt's move to include the six communities of Assam into Scheduled Tribe (ST) list and the process of NRC in tribal areas of Assam.

The decision was taken in a meeting of tribal intellectual, educationists, social worker and senior citizens held at Basic Training Centre on Monday in Kokrajhar, was organised by Janajati Suraksha Mancha, Kokrajhar district unit.

Ashok Kumar Brahma, secretary of the mancha in a statement said that if the six communities are included in ST list the existing tribal demography will change, the political rights of the tribals will be snatched away and tribal as a whole will be rooted out from their own soil. The process of inclusion of six communities by different govt in different times have been rejected by register general of India on the ground of non fulfillment of criteria as per constitution of India. If govt proceeds in violation of this criteria the existing tribals will be deprived of their protection guaranteed in the constitution of India and raise the constitutional crisis.

The mancha also strongly states that the NRC updation in tribal areas in nothing but registration of non protected class of people in tribal belt and block areas, who illegally occupied the tribal land. The meeting strongly opposed the updating of NRC in tribal areas of this non protected class of people and demanded Assam as well as central govt of India to registrar them in their original home address, where from they migrated, besides demanding to evict all the illegal intruders from the tribal areas (tribal belt & blocks).

The state govt as well as centre instead of detecting and deporting foreigners are harassing the tribal people of Assam by imposing their criteria for NRC and for the purpose detecting Pakistani or Bangladeshi intruders.

The tribal leaders strongly urged the govt to stop the harassment of tribal people and they should be registered in their residence without prescribed criteria on th simple production of tribal certificate.

The mancha has been opposed the proposed Ajmal college and Ajmal foundation at Hasraobari under tribal belt of Gossaigaon subdivision of Kokrajhar district and other tribal areas in BTAD region, because the project has deep rooted conspiracy to protect illegal occupiers of their people in protected tribal land and engulf the trials and extinguish the tribal culture and identity and jeopardise their protection guaranteed in the constitution of India, the statement added.
