No SC breather for Swamy

In yet another embarressment for Subramanian Swamy, the Supreme Court bench on Monday refused to hear the BJP leader’s plea against the bailable warrant by the Karimganj court.

Headed by Justice RK Agrawal the apex court bench of Justice Amitava Roy, referred the plea to another bench.

Senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani who appeared before Swamy urged the court to issue an interim order to help his claint avoid the impending arrest.

The SC bench said that nothing will happen till June 22 . But it refused to pass an interim order on Swamy's arrest. However, it allowed Swamy to mention it before Chief Justice HL Dattu.

Then Justice Roy said, "if it has to come before another bench, why apply mind. List it before another bench on June 22."

The Karimganj court recently issued a non-bailable warrant accusing Swamy of failing to surrender before it for delivering an inflammatory address at the Kaziranga University on 15 March. The court asked Delhi police to arrest Swamy by June 30 and to airlift him to the court at his own expense.
