Police apprehended the Kokrajhar district commander of the National Liberation Front Of Bengali(NLFB) Mithu Debnath, 26, from near NRL Petrol depot in Kokrajhar.
Police said Debnath, arrest came following the arrest of two cadres of the outfit Amar Paul @ Gudu(27) and Chittaranjan Sarkar(23) on Monday last along with a pistol, 2 live ammunitions, one magazine and 3 mobile handsets from Santinagar village.
Paul had admitted of being a member of the outfit and working under Debnath. He also said that Debnath has been carrying out recruitment drive at various places in Kokrajhar district.
Police said Debnath who owns a tyre repairing shop near NRL petrol depot along the JD Road, has been carrying out extortion from various businessmen and individuals since the last few months and carrying out recruitment drive luring youths from poor economic background school and college dropout youths.
The NLFB is a newly formed Bengali extremist group being function from neighbouring West Bengal state.
Sources said Abhijit Das is the commander-in-chief cum chairman of the outfit whole one Suraj is the deputy commander-in-chief and formed the outfit to make possible security yo the Bengali community from extortion, killing, kidnapped and harassed by so called militant and anti social elements in the region.
