ABSU conference concludes

The Sikargaon Ground in Kokrajhar falls silent. ABSU conference comes to an end on Sunday. Organized by ABSU’s Banargaon unit, the two-day conference pulled huge crowd on Saturday and Sunday.

The conference discussed the various issues confronting the Bod people and cleared a slew of resolutions including social uplift of the common people, ensuring quality education in the schools and colleges. ABSU general secretary Romeo P Narzary attended the open session as chief guest presided over by Tikaram Narzary.

The conference set up a new committee of the anchalik committee with Madan Kumar Mushahary as president, Manajit Daimary as general secretary and Hementa Borgoyary as cashier for next two years.

AGP leader quits party

AGP leader and former MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami on Sunday quit the regional party.

Gowasmi, the three time party legislator from Jorhat Assembly constituency has already sent his resignation letter as the party’s primary member to president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.

Goswami sent the resignation letter a day after he met the party members in Jorhat on Saturday. The development is a staggering blow for the regional party three months before the Lok Sabha polls.

100 years of first Bodo book

Commemorating the 100 years of Boroni Phisa O' Ayen(Son of the Boros & its Customary Laws), the first printed book in Bodo language, the Bodo Writers' Academy is celebrating the occasion with a two-day long programme on December 19 -20 next here in Kokrajhar.

Rajen Basumatary, vice president of Bodo Writers Academy said the academy is celebrating the 100 years of the first printed book in Bodo language with a year long programmes in various parts of the state since the beginning of 015. As a concluding ceremony, the academy is holding a two days programme at Kokrajhar.  Seminars and discussion of various topic related to Bodo literature will be held during the two days programme.

Revenue officer suspended for graft

TANGLA: The Land and Revenue Department of BTC had suspended a revenue officer of Harisinga Revenue Circle Office on charges of graft on Monday. The long time allegations of a section of public that the officials have to be bribed to move any file where proven true after a video of a revenue officer(Lot Mandal) of the Circle Office caught accepting bribe on camera went viral in social media sites. Reportedly, the revenue officer, identified as one Numal Daimari had allegedly accepted bribe of Rs. 10,000 from a person for registration of land. The Udalguri district administration had also informed the media persons of strict disciplinary action against the official.
