BTC election tomorrow

Stage is all set for the 3rd BTC election tomorrow amidst tight security.

Polling officials were seen moving out to the respective polling stations with ballot boxes.

Lower Assam commissioner Santanu Thakur said they are all prepared and has done all necessary arrangements for peaceful holding of the election in a free and fair manner. He said adequate security arrangement has been made to thwart any untowards incidents. He expressed confidence of holding the election in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

Kokrajhar deputy commissioner and returning officer, Kokrajhar, Thaneswar Malakar, said the administration had taken steps to ensure free and fair elections.

He said the district had been divided into 28 zones and these would be looked after by 12 constituency magistrates and 28 zonal officers. 

There are 79 sectors of which 25 sectors are in Kokrajhar subdivision, 43 in Gossaigaon and 11 in Parbhatjhora subdivision respectively. These sectors would be looked after by sector magistrates who would also be responsible for maintaining law and order. 

Malakar said are 754 polling stations in the district of which 196 polling stations had been identified as “very sensitive”. 

A total of 585,971 voters, of whom 248,340 in Kokrajhar subdivision, 282,354 in Gossaigaon subdivision and 55,277 voters in Parbhatjhora subdivision, will exercise their right to franchise in 12 constituencies under Kokrajhar district to decide the fate of 88 candidates.

Security forces have intensified their combing operation against militant outfits in the region.  Three link men/over ground worker of the National Democratic Front of Boroland-Songbijit faction were apprehended by security forces in a joint operation at Ripu Reserve Forest on Sunday morning in Kokrajhar district. Fakiragram bazar turn into ashes

Over 15 shops along the Fakiragram main Bazar in Lower Assam’s Kokrajhar district have turned into ashes.  The fire damaged worth of nearly 50 lakhs properties following fire in gutted on Friday late night. Various types of shops in the bazar which included medical store,hardware,clothes,grocery,stationary,fruits were completely burnt in the fire that started around 12.45 am in the last night. Businessman attacked

A businessman was hospitalized after attacked with sharp weapon by miscreants at Champa bazaar area on Friday evening in Kokrajhar district. He was identified as Tamizaddin Anza ri (32) of Mozabari area. He was immediately rushed to Kokrajhar RNB civil hospital and stated to be critical. Details is awaited. 

Vehicular thief arrested

Salakati police in Kokrajhar district arrested a vehicular thief late last night at Salakati rail track.  He was identified as Naba Das of Belsar in Nalbari district, who was involved with stealing of a four wheeler Mahindra pick up van bearing registration AS-16C-2207. An FIR was registered no.138/16 with Salakati police outpost in this connection, under section (u/s) 457/380/411 IPC. 

KLO ultra held

In a joint operation launched by the security forces from Assam Police and Army apprehended a cadre of Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO) at Salakati village under Kokrajhar PS on Friday.  He was identified as Sonaram Roy of Balagaon area of Kokrajhar district. Mock drill in Kokrajhar

An emergency response mock drill was conducted by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Habrubari in Kokrajhar district on Friday,which was a part of offsite emergency mock on the IOCL Guwahati-Siliguri underground pipeline to test the preparedness of its emergency personnel. A live fire fighting exercise was carried out alongside the drill by Fire and Rescue Services personnel.
