Samujjal to quit AASU

All Assam Students’ Union adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharyya is all set to quit politics. His exit would formally take place at the AASU convention in Dudhnoi on Tuesday.

After his ceremonial exit, the AASU adviser would not join politics and would stay away from any electoral politics.

The student leader was the AASU general secretary for three terms from 1989 to 1999. Later he was elected as advisor of the state’s powerful organization for two tenures.

Congress delegation visits Kokrajhar

A delegation team of Congress party led by Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora, CLP leader Debabrata Saikia visited Kokrajhar and took stock about firing incident at Balajan Tinali bazar in Kokrajhar. Bora alleged that state government totally failed while providing safe and security to the common life and properties.Saikia demanded stern initiative against incident and termed it was unfortunate incident for the state. A three members team of NIA reach in Kokrajhar to investigate into indiscriminate firing at Balajan Tinali bazar. NIA team visited all corners where incident took place which claimed 14 civilians and left 18 injured.

Book on Borjhar airport released

A small book titled Borjhar Biman Bandarar Adi Aru Aji comprising the local history of Borjhar area at the outskirt of Guwahati was released at Guwahati Press Club on Saturday. The booked written by Gauri Kanta Nath, a local resident of Borjhar area is published by Dipak Sarma on behalf of Pragjyoti Prakashan, south Kamrup. The book was formally launched by Asom Sahitya Sabha’s former president Kanaksen Deka and eminent academician Dr Pramod Bhattacharya. The meeting was also addressed by Arun Sarma, H. Medhi, Dr J. Govt claims NDFB-S role in Balajan

The government on Saturday claimed to have identified the perpetrators in the Balajan bloodbath where 14 people were killed in a reign of terror at an open market. According to government sources the neutralized perpetrator was none other than Manjay Islari who along with a few others unleashed the reign of terror with firing and bombing on the common people in the open market. Meanwhile, a 6 member NIA team is taking the statements of the eyewitnesses amid an intensified counter insurgency operation. The army, police and para military forces have been expanding the operation area to the neighbouring BTAD district to trace down the culprits who managed to flee from the spot.

Guwahati Court summons Rahul

A local court in Guwahati on Saturday issued  summon to Rahul Gandhi to appear before it on September 29 in connection with a defamation case pending against the Congress vice president. Acting on a criminal defamation case filed by a RSS member, the Kamrup Metropolitan Court has asked Gandhi to appear before the court where the petitioner has alleged that the Congress top leader, in a rally in Guwahati a couple of months back, accused RSS of killing Mahatma Gandhi. It assumed significance hardly after a month Gandhi refused to tender apology before RSS even after the Supreme Court asked him to do so. He instead said that there is no question of apologising or expressing regret.

The United Liberation Front of Asom (I) has warned of dire consequences if somebody tries to monger trouble with fratricidal killings like the indiscriminate firings and bombings at the Balajan Market in Kokrajhar on Friday. AJYCP demands judicial probe

AJYCP has strongly condemned the gory attack on the common people in Kokrajhar on Friday. In a statement issued by AJYCP president Biraj Kumar Talukdar, the organization called the perpetrators a bunch of cowards and demands strong steps to bring them to book. Talukdar has squarely blamed the BJP-led government in Dispur alleging its utter failure to ensure safety and security of the common people even in the broad day light. Sonowal hints at strict action

Hours after the gory incident of bloodbath in Kokrajhar, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that he would allow any place to embroil in violence. Talking to reporters, Sonowal said that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators who have let loose the reign of terror. He asked security forces to strictly deal with the trouble mongers. Security forces have cordoned off the entire area and have launched a massive operation to nab the militants.

14 killed in militant attack in Kokrajhar

In yet another incident of gruesome violence that sends nationwide shock and anger suspected  NDFB(S) militants gunned down at least 14 people at an open market in Kokrajhar on Friday. The incident took place in the morning when two militant who landed from a rickshow at 11-30 and started indiscriminate firing at the crowd where 14 people dead and 30 others injured. One of the militants lobbed a grenade at the crowd before vanishing from the spot.
