Samujjal to quit AASU

All Assam Students’ Union adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharyya is all set to quit politics. His exit would formally take place at the AASU convention in Dudhnoi on Tuesday.

After his ceremonial exit, the AASU adviser would not join politics and would stay away from any electoral politics.

The student leader was the AASU general secretary for three terms from 1989 to 1999. Later he was elected as advisor of the state’s powerful organization for two tenures.

A delegation team of Congress party led by Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora, CLP leader Debabrata Saikia visited Kokrajhar and took stock about firing incident at Balajan Tinali bazar in Kokrajhar. Bora alleged that state government totally failed while providing safe and security to the common life and properties.Saikia demanded stern initiative against incident and termed it was unfortunate incident for the state. The government on Saturday claimed to have identified the perpetrators in the Balajan bloodbath where 14 people were killed in a reign of terror at an open market. According to government sources the neutralized perpetrator was none other than Manjay Islari who along with a few others unleashed the reign of terror with firing and bombing on the common people in the open market. Meanwhile, a 6 member NIA team is taking the statements of the eyewitnesses amid an intensified counter insurgency operation. A local court in Guwahati on Saturday issued  summon to Rahul Gandhi to appear before it on September 29 in connection with a defamation case pending against the Congress vice president. Acting on a criminal defamation case filed by a RSS member, the Kamrup Metropolitan Court has asked Gandhi to appear before the court where the petitioner has alleged that the Congress top leader, in a rally in Guwahati a couple of months back, accused RSS of killing Mahatma Gandhi. It assumed significance hardly after a month Gandhi refused to tender apology before RSS even after the Supreme Court asked him to do so. AJYCP has strongly condemned the gory attack on the common people in Kokrajhar on Friday. In a statement issued by AJYCP president Biraj Kumar Talukdar, the organization called the perpetrators a bunch of cowards and demands strong steps to bring them to book. Hours after the gory incident of bloodbath in Kokrajhar, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that he would allow any place to embroil in violence. Talking to reporters, Sonowal said that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators who have let loose the reign of terror.
