Seminar in Bhawanipur college
Bhawanipur college is Barpeta district dresses afresh. Only 12 days after left. The premier college is all set to host a national seminar on environmental issues.
The event would begin with the hoisting of flag by Bhawanipur Anchalik College principal Dr. Mukunda Sarma at 9 in the morning on January 19. College governing body president Binode Chandra Pathak, Tarani Pathak, Chief Conservator of Forest attached to Manas sanctuary Anindya Swargowari, Avinu Veronica from Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, former teacher Dr. Girish Sarma would discuss preservation of environment, ecology and wild life in the first session.
Global warming & climate change, Consumption and Lifestyle Choices (using resources efficiently, informed and responsible consumer behavior), Sustainable Development (Biodiversity, Agriculture, Energy, Waste, Water etc.) and Recycling Waste, promotion of traditional and alternative technologies for conservation of environmental resources are other topics to be discussed in the two days event.
Eminent International Filmmaker Jahnu Baruah is also scheduled to attend the event jointly organized by the college and the RAJIV GANDHI NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT under the Ministry of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs & Sports.

Good news for people of Sarupeta. Courtesy the Northeast Frontier Railway. From now and onwards, the Sarupeta station will be the regular stop for the Kamakhya-Alipurduar Intercity Express. The decision was taken in view of the long standing demands of the local residents. JINTUL TALUKDAR, BARPETA: Minority students are angry with the chief minister Tarun Gogoi who dropped border development minister Siddique Ahmed on Tuesday. Hundreds of the students hailing from the minority communities on Wednesday burnt the effigy of Tarun Gogoi at Kalgasia in Barpeta district for Siddique’s exclusion. Talking to Assam, the protestors said that Gogoi has insulted the minority communities by replacing Ahmed who has been making no less contribution for the uplift of the communities. In a bizarre incident that sends shocwaves across the state, a villager lost his life at the hands of his wife and son in Barpeta district on Thursday.
The incident was beleived to have taken place at Kaharpara vlage in Niyananda area where 55 year old Kalicharan Kalita was beaten up to death by his wife Lalita Kalita and son Montu.
It took place in the wee hours because of domestic violence. But it came to light only after 8 in the morning. Policemen arrived in the spot and arrested the mother and son.
