CM gives away Anundoram award

The Assam government starts distributing the Anundoram Barooah Award to the first and high second division holder HSLC examinees from Tuesday. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi gave away the award to the recipients at a function in Khanapara in the morning.

In his address, Gogoi advised the students to take a vital lead to dress the society afresh with innovative mind and idea which, he hoped, would pay dividend in near future.

Education minister Pradyut Bordoloi, parliamentary secretary for education Rekibudin Ahmed were prominent among those who attended the function.

Comprising a certificate and a laptop, the award would be given away to altogether 40,800 first and high second division holder HSLC examinees in 2014 across the state.

Guwahati: Assam Sports Journalists Association  in association with Guwahati Press Club is going to organize a memorial meeting on 5 June (Tuesday) at the press club premises where the media fraternity will mourn the untimely demise  of senior sports journalist Sanjib Kumar Sarma Thakur. A sportsperson himself, Sarma Thakur was also recognized as a commentator of All India Radio and Doordarshan. NEW DELHI: Foreign policy expert Rejaul Karim Laskar has been conferred by the Embassy of Venezuela to India with the "Venezuela-India Blend" medal for his contributions as an author and scholar of India's foreign policy. Laskar was conferred with the medal by the Ambassador of Venezuela to India Augusto Montiel at the Venezuela Embassy, New Delhi yesterday (May 10, 2018).
