A US team is on a visit to Assam to find out the mortal remains of their four soldiers who died in air crash during the World War II. Led by David Gooch, the team under the banner of Joint Prisoners of War/Missing in Action Accounting Command is visiting Sivasagar district.
The focus of attention is a tiny village in Charaideo where the US team along with the officials of archeological survey of India is searching the remains of the US soldiers. The team starts search operation from Wednesday till November 5. The mortal remains, if found, would be handed over to the family members.
The crash took place on June 26 in 1944 when the US war plane crashed with eleven soldiers in Kothiakhunda village. Bodies of seven soldiers were recovered. Four others were left out because of an unavoidable circumstances.

The US Government is currently working with Rimo Expeditions to recover the mortal remains of four crewmen still missing from the crash of the US Army Air Force B-29 bomber "Eileen", which crashed in Assam's Sivasagar district on 26 June 1944. The missing airmen are 2nd Lt. Walter B. Miklosh of Illinois, Flight Officer Chester L. Rinke of Michigan, S/Sgt. Donal C. Aiken of Washington state, and T/Sgt. John M. Larkins of Tennessee (sources: C. M. Quinn, The Aluminum Trail (1989), National World War II Memorial). We pray that their remains will be recovered and returned to their families. In a horrific incident, a 40-year old man was lynched in a village of Karbi-Anglong on Sunday night.
As per reports, a mob of some villagers brutally assulted a man to death. The victim was identified as Monsing Rongpi. He was a resident of the Karashi Bey village under the Bakalia police station. The mob first took him to a football field where they tied him to a goalpost before beating him mercilessly. Due to the assult, Rongpi died at the spot, reports said. Today morning, the police reached the spot, recovered and sent the victim body for postmortem.

Guwahati: Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched distribution of Rs 240 crore to over 7 lakh tea garden workers at a function in Guwahati on Saturday.
All these tea garden workers would get Rs 3,000 each in their bank accounts.
In his address state finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government was in the process of revising the daily wage amount for the tea garden workers very soon.

Guwahati : AJP and Raijor Dal will fight the upcoming assembly polls jointly. This was what the leaders of both the regional parties told media in Guwahati on Friday.
AJP president and Raijor Dal leader Bhaskar De Saikia said that they would maintain equidistance with AIUDF, Congress and BJP.
They further said that never they would have any patch up with any national party and that they would keep doors open for the regional parties.

Guwahati: AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi and general secretary Jagdish Bhuyan visited Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi in Guwahati on Thursday amid the speculations of the move to forge alliance to fight against BJP and Congress.
