Roing (Arunachal Pradesh), July 27, 2014: To motivate children for conservation and generate their empathy for wildlife, a day-long campaign was organised by the International Fund for Animal Welfare - Wildlife Trust of India (IFAW-WTI) in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Forest Department at Roing in Lower Dibang Valley district. The daylong event concluded with prize distribution function on Saturday,26th July 2014.
The campaign was organised at Vivekananda Kendriya Vidyalaya (VKV), Roing, and saw a participation of over 400 students from classes VI to XII. Interactions were held with the children to inform them about wildlife. Activities including painting competition, quiz, essay writing were carried out.
Sunil Kyarong, IFAW-WTI Regional Head, who is in charge of Arunachal Pradesh projects appreciating the effort of the campaign said, "We are always keen to motivate the budding generation. The idea is to reach out to as many children as possible with the message of wildlife conservation."
Kenjum Rina, DFO, Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary Division of Arunachal Pradesh Forest Department has appreciated the effort of IFAW-WTI towards wildlife conservation in the state.
The winners of the competitions were awarded by the eminent guests with certificate and attractive gifts. Ipra Mekola, member State Wildlife Advisory Board, Rita Raj, Principal of VKV-Roing (AP) and other eminent personalities were present at the event. Ovid Mepo, senior office bearer of All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) was also present at the awareness campaign. IFAW-WTI team included Dr Kuladeep Roy, Soumya Dasgupta and Parth Pratim Bhowmick.
"This initiative is a part of our continuous awareness attempt to enlighten the children towards wildlife conservation in Lower Debang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh. Our motive is to nurture the wildlife conservation knowledge of the school children through these activities," said Dr Kuladeep Roy, Assistant Manager.
The winners of drawing competition are Kenjom Lego (1st), Anjali K. M. Sriwastav (2nd), Jim Linggi (3rd) and Nasi Mendo,Khopo Linggi got consolation prizes. The Quize competition winners are Visha Dutta, Chirag Sukla,Sashi Pandey in the first group. Ngugam Dabi got first position in wildlife conservation short essay competition from Vivekananda Kendriya Vidyalaya (VKV) at the campaign.
