Ripun dead oppose to dissidents
Amid simmering dissidence within the Congress Legislative party, a senior party leader has slammed a section of ministers and MLAs for demanding removal of Tarun Gogoi as chief minister saying that the party won’t allow them to do it.
In an exclusive interview with Assam Times, senior Congress leader Ripun Bora said that the party high command should not favour the dissident ministers ad MLAs.
The former education minister said that the demand for Gogoi’s removal as chief minister is not justified and that he should be allowed to continue as chief minister till the next assembly polls.
“A real Congressman can never think of floating a new party only for becoming the chief minister,” Bora told Assam Times in the sidelines of a function in Bajali on Thursday.
He said the dissident camp would not be able to dethrone Gogoi as chief minister who enjoys a separate degree of veneration in AICC.
“He commands respect as the three time chief minister and his fate cannot be decided by a handful of ministers and MLAs,” said the former education minister.
Bora’s comment assumes significance hours after the dissident ministers and MLAs threaten to take a drastic step if party high command fails to dislodge Tarun Gogoi as chief minister by Saturday.
Addressing a press conference in Dispur on Thursday, they said that they have been waiting for the party high command’s response to their demands. They claimed that they have support of 40 legislators against Tarun Gogoi as chief minister.
