Cong needs dynamic leadership

Problem-torn state of Assam for several years is now passing through a critical situation on which the Congress Party-led state government seems to have turned deaf ears and eyes-shut, despite hectic efforts of local people, NGOs and media covering the news from each and every corner of the state. The party in power for last thirteen years is divided among several factions contesting to gain maximum benefit out of the prevailing situation. The entire state is running under serious violence related to burning houses of inmates, murder, theft, communal hatred, abduction, indecent behavior against womenfolk and aged persons, but the administration is standstill. Criminals are active and have patronage of some influential leaders. Under the circumstances it is very much desired by the people of the state to bring in a ‘dynamic leader’ to tackle the situation and bring peace in the state. The dilly dally action of state government by transferring certain police official and constables from one place to other cannot improve the situation. The chief minister of the state gives assurances to the people of removing their problems ‘shortly’ which do not come true for years together. He is very fond of laying foundation stones, releasing new schemes and seldom completing a few.

The situation would have not gone worse as now, if the Central leadership of Congress Party had taken steps to realize and understand the situation by themselves instead of being guided by the Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi alone, who always tried to give one-sided picture of the situation and never allowed the Central leadership to have the opinion of other sections of the people. The failure of Congress Party in the recent Lok Sabha polls is the result of ignoring the actual picture of political situation of the state by the Congress high command, Sonia Gandhi, party vice president, Rahul Gandhi and the former prime minister Manmohan Singh. Central leaders of the party were kept in dark about the frustration growing up in the party cadres, who decided to play the game in absence of a clear-cut guideline from their leaders.

The people of state believe that the party failed to select right candidates for the last parliamentary polls as the entire selection of the candidates were cleared by the party vice president Rahul Gandhi.

The Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District (BTAD) is under serious violence at present. Abduction of businessmen and murder of innocent people is continue and the state government is busy in transferring some policemen from the places of violence and sending new persons, which cannot be taken as a foolproof security to the affected people. No senior member of the state government has so far visited the affected areas to console the people who have lost their kith and kin and households too. Under the leadership of the CM, Tarun Gogoi, the people of the state feel themselves neglected. Barak valley people feel themselves ignored by the party rulers and Lower Assam people think themselves neglected by heavy weights of upper Assam. They feel the situation cannot improve under present regime.
