Janajati Mancha demands protections of tribal belt

The Janajati Suraksha Mancha, Kokrajhar district committee strongly condemned and termed the statement of the All Assam Minority Students Union(AAMSU) demanding dissolution of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) administration and review the Bodo Accord is baseless and meaningless.

In a press release, Ashok Kumar Brahma, General Secretary of the Manch said that the demand of AAMSU is baseless and it is out of their rights as they are illegally migrated in tribal belt and blocks by which area the BTC was created .

The AAMSU yesterday staged a demonstration at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi demanding  to dissolve the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) administration and review the Bodo Accord, handling over the law and order to army. T he AAMSU alleged a conspiracy to drive out non-Bodos, particularly Muslims, from the BTAD in a bid to create a Bodo-majority area.

In the statement, the Janajati Suraksha Mancha said the peoples who are illegally encroachers in tribal belt and blocks have no right quality to demand o the Council which was created for the safeguard of tribals and other indigenous communities.

The Mancha said the AAMSU and ABMSU are misusing the term ‘Minority’. ‘When we say religious minority communities, it should include Christian, Buddhist, Bathousim, Jainism and not only Muslims.

The Mancha also said that majority villages which the Muslims community and Oboro Suruksha Samiti demanding expulsion from BTAD and filed petition at Gauhati High Court falls within the  tribal belts, blocks and tribal sub-plan areas. By filing such cases, these illegal encroachers are trying to make it look legal and creating unwanted situation in the region, they said.

The Mancha demanded the tribal belt and blocks should be protected at any cost and the illegally migrated peoples who are occupying should be evicted.
