Violence in Karbi Anglong area apprehended

Having felt the grave situation in Karbi Anglong and suspecting mass killing of Hindi speaking people belonging to labor class like last year the security forces deployed in the district asked the non-Karbi Hindi speaking people to move either in the relief camp or to go out of the district for their safety; otherwise security forces could not be responsible for their carnage, said one Mehato of Bihar at Furkating Railway station traveling from Diphu to Guwahati with his family - wife and two children - for his native place leaving behind his house hold belongings. Mahato who had been living in Kabi Anglong since decades said this correspondent with tears in his eyes - “Jab Sena Hi Itani lachar hai to Ham Log Kaise surakshit Rah Sakte Hai (when Army is so helpless how could we feel secure). It may be mentioned that two Hindi speaking persons were said to be killed by a militant group suspected to have been belonged to ‘Larbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front at Bokoliaghat. It may be recalled that the said place was the same place where at least 30 persons were brutally killed and their thatched houses were set ablaze last year. However the top officials of civil administration, the police department and the other security forces deployed in the district are putting their heads together in making a plan to mobilize the scattered Hindi speaking people settled in different and distant villages to be gathered at one place so that their security might be assured. One top security official who came across this correspondent in a hotel at Silonijan in Karbi Anglong on the condition of anonymity told that to pull the militancy by its root not only in Karbi Anglong but from all over the North East Region was a matter of few weeks had there been not any political interference or pressure on the security forces. Reacting to the comment made by the said officials this correspondent reminds him that ours is a democratic country and what you say is only possible under military rule. Here people do not allow to curb the human rights that are allowed under the constitution.

The direction of the security forces as well as of the civil administration put forwarded to the Hindi speakers either to take shelter in the relief camps or move out of the district put those families in jeopardy whose children are taking on going Matriculation Examination in the state.

The May 5, which was called to be a red letter day in the history of regional politics in the state of Assam when almost all the leaders after having a meet with eleven member committee and agreed to be unified in one single regional party is seemed to be clouded with doubt as a section of AGP influential leaders in second in line have started expressing their view against complete merger but like to test the broad based alliance just like UPA and NDA. Because the adaptation of resolution in favour of unification in the eleven member committee meeting with other regional party representative would not be final. As this committee, as decided earlier, would submit its report to the State...

It is very much surprising and alarming that despite the presence of the armed security forces, in a small town like Merapani of Golaghat, an organization formed with an object to raise its voice against the Government. Suddenly it turned from moderate to a violent and dreaded militant group with name and style of ANLA (Adiwasi National Liberation Army). Now it becomes so strong that it dared to blast the Rajdhani train recently in protest of the arrest of seven of its cadres who were carrying arms and remunerations with them. At the initial stage of its formation the activities of this organization were limited within the area of Merapani only and then extended to the Golaghat District and...
