Waiting for Rahul Gandhi

Amid a massive security arrangement, people thronging in thousands in Biswanath Chariali to attend Rahul Gandhi’s rally on Monday.

Security forces are fanning across the district to thwart any move by NDFB-S militants to disrupt Gandhi’s poll rally to campaign for Tezpur party candidate Bhupen Bora.

Senior party leaders told Assam Times that security forces are guarding hundreds of buses deployed by the party to ferry people to the rally at the Kamala Kanta Khetra.

Gandhi is scheduled to arrive in Tezpur at 11 in the morning. Then he would straightly leave for Biswanath Charilai to hold the rally. He would fly to Dibrugarh at 1-30 in the afternoon.      

Massive security arrangement is required in the entire district in view of NDFB-S militants’ 12 hour bandh to oppose Rahul Gandhi’s visit.

Rahul's rally in Assam is equally important. He has been strength of congress party and he has given its party a breakthrough. His efforts were transformed into actions.

One can see that Rahul Gandhi's popularity is rising day by day. He is very much popular among the young generation and also among the people at the grassroot level. He is putting good efforts in reaching out to people.

Hazarika’s effigy burnt

Asom Yuva Parishad activists burnt the effigy of Padma Hazarika alleging his intentional mistake in the voting exercise in the Rajya Sabha polls on Friday.Several AYP activists thronged the AGP headquarters in the evening after the announcement of the poll results. Opposition consensus candidate Haidor Hussain said that he would further refrain from active political party.After his defeat in the Rajya Sabha polls on Friday, he told reporters in Dispur that his defeat was on the expected line in view of the gradual erosion of unity among the Opposition parties.But he said he agreed to give his consent to the proposal in view of overwhelming support from across the state. He had to remain satisfied with only 26 votes.

AGP suspends Hazarika

The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad has suspended Padma Hazarika for 6 years alleging his intentional mistake in the voting in the Rajya Sabha polls.The decision was taken at the party’s steering committee meeting after the announcement of the poll results.Senior party leaders agreed that the mistake was intentional which was why, his vote was cancelled giving a big blow to the prospect of the Opposition consensus candidate Haidor Hussain.  

BJP votes found intact!

Amid controversy over Prasanta Phukan’s vote, BJP leadership has claimed that not even a single vote of the party legislators have been found invalid.According state unit president Sarbananda Sonowal, all BJP votes were valid and that the question of secret understanding does not arise.Phukan also claimed to have done nothing wrong while he was casting his vote favouring the Opposition consensus vote in the Rajya Sabha polls on Friday.

I am happy: Gogoi

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that he was the happiest of all in the Congress to have ensured the victory of the two ruling party candidates apart from the BPF candidate in the Rajya Sabha polls.Talking to reporters after the announcement of the poll results in Dispur, Gogoi criticized the Opposition unity saying that an unholy alliance does not last long.

I will work for Assam: Sinh

After his victory in the Rajya Sabha polls on Friday, Dr Sanjay Singh said that he was never an outsider and that he would always think of the people of Assam in his mind.He told reporters that he would raise his voice on behalf of Assam and the Assamese in Parliament. Dr Sinh and his wife arrived in Guwahati when polling was going on.

Cong celebrates victory

Assam Congress is upbeat with the Rajya Sabha poll results after it was formally announced on Friday evening.Hundreds of Congress activists thronged the Rajiv Bhawan and started bursting fire crackers to celebrate the victory. Sweets are being served among the Congress activists in the Rajiv Bhawan.

Cancellation of five crucial votes stymied the poll prospect of Opposition candidate Haidor Hussain. Victory for Congress, BPF

The suspense is over. Its victory for Bhubneswar Kalita, Dr Sanjay Sinh and Biswajeet Daimary in the Rajya Sabha polls on Friday.Congress candidates Bhuneswar Kalita and Dr Singh got 32 votes each while the alliance BPF candidate got 29 votes. Haidor Hussain had to remain satisfied with 26 votes.In a major setback for the Opposition camp, six votes stood cancelled. This has become a staggering blow for the prospect of the Opposition consensus candidate.       Barring Ataur Rahman Majarbhuyan, all legislators have exercised their franchise for the three seats in the Upper House.

KMSS targets Majarbhuyan

Hundreds of KMSS activists in Silchar staged protest in protest against the absence of Katigarh MLA Ataur Rahman Majarbhuyan in the Rajya Sabha polling on Friday which paved the way for easy win for Congress and BPF candidates.Shouting slogans against the MLA the protestors warned him of dire consequences in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and in the next assembly polls.Later police rushed to the spot and disperse the protestors.
