Waiting for Rahul Gandhi

Amid a massive security arrangement, people thronging in thousands in Biswanath Chariali to attend Rahul Gandhi’s rally on Monday.

Security forces are fanning across the district to thwart any move by NDFB-S militants to disrupt Gandhi’s poll rally to campaign for Tezpur party candidate Bhupen Bora.

Senior party leaders told Assam Times that security forces are guarding hundreds of buses deployed by the party to ferry people to the rally at the Kamala Kanta Khetra.

Gandhi is scheduled to arrive in Tezpur at 11 in the morning. Then he would straightly leave for Biswanath Charilai to hold the rally. He would fly to Dibrugarh at 1-30 in the afternoon.      

Massive security arrangement is required in the entire district in view of NDFB-S militants’ 12 hour bandh to oppose Rahul Gandhi’s visit.

Rahul's rally in Assam is equally important. He has been strength of congress party and he has given its party a breakthrough. His efforts were transformed into actions.

One can see that Rahul Gandhi's popularity is rising day by day. He is very much popular among the young generation and also among the people at the grassroot level. He is putting good efforts in reaching out to people.

3 injured in mob attack

Sensation seems to have escalated in Barpeta where an irate mob attacked three of a family alleging their involvement in a number of dacoity cases.The incident took place at Bartari in Barpeta on Tuesday when local residents in large number took out the trio, tied them with a rope on the street and were mercilessly beaten up.The irate mob further burnt down their house after recovering some stolen and robbed materials including gold chains, mobile phones, watch.Police rushed to the spot. Dam equipment hits roadblock

Amid massive security, a huge trailer is believed to have been carrying vital equipment for big dams in Arunachal Pradesh.The trailer managed to crossed Guwahati on Monday night and is set to reach Tezpur on Tuesday afternoon triggering protest in Nagaon.  KMSS activists, which has been dead opposed to the dams in Gerukamukh are trying to resist the move by holding road blockade in some places on the National Highway 37.

Suspected NDFB-S militants shot at a local businessman in Kokrajhar district on Monday.According to information, identified as Babu Ali, the local businessman in Kajigaon was shot at by three motorcycle armed youths in the evening on his way back to home.Police rushed to the spot. But by then, the militants managed to flee from the spot. The injured businessman was rushed to the hospital.

Electronic eyes in Kaziranga

Beware rhino poachers. Poachers’ movement could be dangerous in Kaziranga National park. The world heritage site is fitted with electronic eyes to monitor the movement of rhino poachers.Forest minister Rockybul Hussian laid the foundation stone of the project at a function in Kaziranga on Monday.Initially, Kaziranga will get 8 such towers to scan the movement of poachers. More towers are in the pipeline. Notably, poachers have killed 6 rhinos during the last two months alone.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is coming to the state on February 25.APCC leaders told Assam Times that during his two days visit, Gandhi is scheduled to meet the senior journalists and intellectuals at Sarusajai Indoor Stadium.This is apart from his huge rally on women and youth empowerment, meeting with women Congress workers in Jorhat and a road show from Tezpur to Nagaon.  

Biker crushed to death

A section of city buses seem to have turned into street killer.A speeding city bus crushed to death a biker in Guwahati on Monday sending shock and anger in the city.The incident took place at Survey area in Beltola in the afternoon when the city bus rammed into the bike leaving the biker on the spot.The deceased was identified as Ranjit Kumar. Eyewitness told Assam Times that it is simply because of the speeding bus. A case has been registered in Dispur police station.

More death in ULFA camp

Yet another death seems to have rattled ULFA camp these days.This time the deceased is Tenzing Asom, the eastern commander of the banned insurgent outfit who died of cerebral malaria.In a message to the media on Monday, the outfit said that he died of cerebral malaria on February 14.
