HSLC-HS examinations begin

The Board of Secondary education, Assam is beginning its High School Leaving Certificate Examinations 2008 and High Madrassa examinations from Friday across the state. According to information, altogether 3,55,120 candidates are appearing in the examinations Of this figure, 6,337 candidates are appearing in the High Madrassa examinations. On the other hand, altogether 1,65,726 candidates are appearing in the higher secondary examinations which is beginning also today. An official statement from the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council has informed that 1,39,320 candidates are appearing in the arts stream while the number of science stream is 15,315. The number of commerce candidate for the higher secondary examination is 10,568. The results of all these examinations is expected in May. In yet another development, the Kokrajhar Girls HS Schools is falling short of 65 English question papers.

Several people have been injured while police shelled tear gas to disperse the protesters who blocked the National Highways 37 at Naduwa in Upper Assam's Dibrugarh district on Thursday. The protesters demand steps to check erosion that poses a serious threat to Rahmoria area of Dibrugarh district.
