Rupsi Airport in Assam gets regular flight under RCS-UDAN

KOKRAJHAR: Airports Authority of India, in its continuous endeavour to link under-served and un-served airports through Regional Connectivity Scheme routes has started its regular flight services at Rupsi Airport in Assam.

 The first commercial flight of Flybig airline landed today at 12.07 pm marking the beginning of a new era at Rupsi, in Kokrajhar district of Assam and adjoining area. 

As a gesture of welcome, water cannon salute was accorded to the incoming flight by the airport officials. All safety checks and mandatory security arrangements were done prior to the arrival. Considering the Covid19 guidelines, the proper marking and distancing measures were also ensured for all passengers. Earlier on 05 May 2021, a trial flight was tested and operational requirements were checked successfully. 

24 passengers arrived from Guwahati on the inaugural flight. Total pax movement during 8th May’21 was 55 nos.

Informing about the services, Shri Jyotirmoy Boruah, Airport In-charge, AAI said that it a historic moment for all of us at Rupsi as regular flight services has started under the RCS- UDAN programme of Govt. It will ensure affordable flying for all specially the lower income group population here. UDAN flight provides cheap air fares for short destinations, connecting the unconnected, he added.    

Fly big airline was awarded routes under UDAN-Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik scheme of Government of India to operate flight service at Rupsi by Ministry of Civil Aviation through a bidding process. It will operate flights on Guwahati- Rupsi-Kolkata route and back. Initially it will operate on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday as informed by the airline. 

Airports Authority of India has re-developed this world war-II era air strip of Assam at an estimated cost of Rs. 69 Cr. The foundation stone for this re development project was laid by Hon’ble CM Shri Sarbananda Sonowal in February 2018. 

Spread across 337 acres, the newly developed airport has a terminal building measuring 3,500 sqm. Equipped with 10 check-in counters, the terminal is designed to manage about 200 passengers during peak hours. The newly built runway is suitable for landing ATR-72 type aircraft.

The operationalization of Rupsi Airport will help boost the local economy of the Bodoland area and provide better connectivity to the air travellers of the adjacent districts from Dhubri, Bongaigaon, Kokarajhar, Goalpara as well as districts in the neighbouring states of Meghalaya, West Bengal and parts of Bhutan as well.

Due to the current COVID situation, no inauguration programme was arranged by AAI on the occasion.

 It is need to be understood that upon improvement in COVID situation, an Inauguration ceremony would be organised involving all stakeholders in days to come.

 BTC executive members Ranjit Kumar Basumatary, Ukil Muchahary, Arup Kumar Dey, MLAs Jayanta Basumatary and Urkhao Gwra Brahma along with  ex. MLA Banendra Muchahary have welcomed the arriving and departing pax of the first flight, with traditional attire like Phulam Gamocha, Aronai and Rajbongshi Gamcha.

Kokrajhar DC Bhaskar Phukan, SP Rakesh Roshan were also witnessed the historic moment at Rupsi Airport. 

Gauripur MLA Nijanur Rehman travelled as a pax from Guwahati to Rupsi.

MLA Urkhao Gwra Brahma while welcoming first passengers at Rupsi Airport today said that the day of 8th May(2021) is a historic day for the region.

"Today is historic day that Rupsi Airport is operational from today and first flight flying to Kolkata from Guwahati via Rupsi.Proud moment for me", Brahma added.

SP Rakesh Roushan told that sufficient security forces have been arranged along the Rupsi airport in Kokrajhar district with the operational be begins from today.

He said that Rupsi airport is an airport which fall in BTR administration and is a air communication in Lower Assam districts.

Roushan told that a strict security vigil has been made to meet a healthy security environment along the airport and it's adjoining areas in the district.

He informed that a total 24 passengers landed at the airport in it's first operational fly from Guwahati.

Hagrama wants BJP's support

BJP, UPPL set to bid BPF farewell from BTR

Kokrajhar: The political landscape is set to undergo a sea change 5months ahead of assembly polls. UPPL and BJP are set to form BTC since BPF has failed to reach the magic mark of 21 in the polls where counting ended midnight. Even after the ruling party could not touch the magic mark, it emerged the largest party with 18 seats---falling short of 3 seats. On the other hand resurgent UPPL has won 12 seats and is holding talks with BJP to form the council which got 9 seats. Congress and AIUDF could not open the account while Gana Sakti Party had to remain satisfied with just a single seat.

BPF losing at the hands of UPPL and BJP

Kokrajhar: The Boro Peoples’ Front is decimated in Boroland Territorial Region where BTC poll counting took place on Saturday. The ruling party is losing at the hands of the resurgent UPPL and BJP, which ironically is BPF’s main coalition ally.   UPPL is taking a huge lead and is going to form the BTC with Pramod Boro in the helm while BJP is just waiting to severe its 5 years alliance. According to the trend, UPPL and BJP will form the council while BPF would be thrown to the opposition. The counting took place from 8 in the morning.   

Brisk BTC polling in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: Around 6.9 voters in Kokrajhar district are exercise their franchise in the second phase of BTC polls on Friday. The district has 19 constituencies where 77 candidates are in the fray. According to the authorities security forces are heavily guarding the every single booth firmly deal with the possible incidents of rigging and booth capturing. The polling is so far peaceful.   The first phase of the polls in Udalguri and Baksa districts saw a polling turnout of 77. The counting will take place on December 12.

Peaceful BTC polling in Chirang

Baksa: A brisk polling is underway in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of BTR in the final phase of BTC polls on Thursday. Amid tight security and COVID19 protocol, the voters in Chirang district are waiting in long queue in front of the polling booths from 7 in the morning. Around 3.68 lakh voters are deciding on the fate of 34 candidates and the most of the seats have witnessed tight triangular contest of BPF, BJP and resurgent UPPL. The first phase of the polls in Udalguri and Baksa districts saw a polling turnout of 77. The counting will take place on December 12.

School reopening in the state

KOKRAJHAR: Schools have reopened from Monday after six months in Kokrajhar, heart of BTAD administration. On the opening day, attendance of the students are seen very thin in the schools. Students are allowed to enter the schools after having NOC from parents, wearing masks and hands sanitized. Thermal checking was compulsory. A strict initiative from health and education departments have been arranged in the school entry gate. BTC illegal appointment: Transport department terminates 29 employees

KOKRAJHAR: Amidst the ongoing Governor's Rule in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), 29 employees of Transport department have been terminated on Friday(7th August, 2020) from their jobs by BTC Secretariat who were allegedly illegally appointed without any interview or examinations during the BPF ruled BTC administration in the council. Among the terminated employees, 8 are assistant enforcement inspectors and 21 enforcement checkers under the Transport Department of BTC administration.
