No bail, Akhil to move SC

Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court has rejected the bail petition of Akhil Gogoi much to the major disappointment of the Raijor Dal which is holding its state convention in Moran on Thursday.

A division bench of the court comprising Justice Kalyan Rai Churana and Justice Ajit Barthakur rejected the petition in the morning.

Gogoi, the peasant leader (KMSS), the parent body of the Raijor Dal won’t be able to come out of the bail where he was remanded last year during the anti CAA stir.

The city based voluntary organization Save Guwahati Bulid Guwahati (SGBG) condoled on the death of former congress MP Santosh Mohan Deb. In a press release the SGBG said that the demise of the veteran politician is an irreparable lost to the organization. “ He (Deb) helped us a great extent when we went to Delhi to meet then Prime Minster Dr. Manmohan Singh to submit a memorandum urging problem of indigenous people’s land problem”, said Dhiren Baruah, former president of the organization. Professor Srinath Barooah, founder vice-chancellor of Krisnakanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU), has denied allegations of financial and other irregularities, leveled against him by his former colleagues. In a horrifying development, a poor flood-affected and differently able farmer of Bordowatop locality in Marigaon district committed suicide on Sunday. The farmer, identified as Kamal Nath, reportedly hanged himself in a temporary camp set-up for flood-affected people of the locality. The Assam wing of the Students’ Federation of India(SFI) staged symbolic protestat Dighalipukuripar, Guwahati  on June 21  against the UGC’s recent decision to hold NET once in a year. The students’ organization rued that if the UGC implements its recent decision regarding the NET then a large number of students would loss chance to appear in the exam. Presently, the UGC holds NET twice in a year. Moreover, the UGC has decided to decrease pass percentage of the NET from present 15% to 6%.
