'BJP government gave lolipop of fake promises to Adivasi community' : MP Kujur
UDALGURI: The last wage agreement signed between Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) and the Consultative Committee of Plantation Associations (CCPA), Assam Valley branch, expired on December 31 last year and till date the new wage agreement has not been signed. The government has formed a committee but it has not taken any decision. The tea garden labourers should have got a hike of wages to Rs.350 from January 1. But contrary to that the government has notified that the wages were hiked to Rs.167 from existing Rs.130 that to applicable from March 1. Where will the amount of Rs.30 increment for previous two months vanish?Will the sum of money amounting nearly 450 crores go for electoral expenses of the saffron party in the forthcoming Parliamentary election.This were the questions and apprehensions expressed by Rajya Sabha, Member of Parliament and Organizing Secretary of ACMS cum Secretary of Mangaldai Branch ACMS, Santiuse Kujur at a press conference here in the office of Mangaldai Branch ACMS in Tangla of Udalguri district on Thursday. Addressing the media persons Kujur lamented that the State, Labour minister should have voiced towards the apathy of tea garden labourers but contrary he is acting as an agent of the tea garden management. "The saffron party had promised of hiking the daily wages to Rs.350 if voted to power,but the government has betrayed the Adivasi community by failing to keep up to their words.The BJP had given a lollipop of fake promises to the Adivasi community "alleged Kujur. The parliamentarian raising the tempo of 2019 Parliamentary election said that the Adivasi community will give the government a befitting reply in polls. "The state government should sign a fresh wage agreement within August next and make the tea garden labourers get their due wages. We demand the government to address the issue immediately" Kujur added. Of the 792 registered tea gardens in the state , 685 are in the Brahmaputra Valley and the rest 107 are in Barak Valley.The ACMS the registered body under the Indian Trade Union Act has control over 685 gardens throughout Brahmaputra Valley.

The large-scale death of fish at the historic Lakhimpur Min Mahal under Kalaigaon revenue circle of Darrang district has left people worried and alarmed at the survival prospects of the aquatic faunas in Lakhimpur phukuri which include turtles, fishes etc. Nearly 15-20 quintals of fishes were found floating on Thursday in the pond, following which hundreds of people gathered to get the dead fishes. The Udalguri DC Sadhana Hojai has prohibited any kind of extra or unauthorised collection of money from the newly enrolled students of HS and TDC 1st semester courses of Tangla College vide Order no. UMG. 3/2015/22 dated June 16, 2016. The admissions are ongoing from June 22-29 June. For long it was alleged various students organisations collected extra-money from the students in the name of enrolling them as a students body member . As a part of World Environmental Day celebration a plantation drive was carried by students and employees of Tangla on Sunday. A total of 150 saplings were planted on the college stadium premises on Monday. The plantation drive was carried out under the joint venture of National Social Service unit and Tangla College Students' Union of Tangla College.
