Role of AASU in Assam

The All Assam Student’s Union (AASU) is a mouthpiece of the people of Assam. Since its inception the AASU has been fighting for the cause of Assam and making its presence felt politically in the entire nation. After the anti foreigner’s movement in Assam which was triggered off by infiltration of Bangladeshis from the border areas, a fear psychosis among the Assamese of losing their identities and cultural bondings led to the formation of AASU. The students of Assam united to form the AASU and lead the people of Assam in their struggle for protecting their identity. It resulted in the signing of the Assam accord. Though the AASU has undergone many splits and various other student organizations like Tai Ahom Students Union, All Bodo Student’s Union (ABSU) have come into existence, the AASU is still following the chosen path of being with the people of Assam and respecting the peoples’ democratic ideals. Though now its role has become even more manifolds with Assam facing newer challenges but the AASU still holds a beacon to the Assamese community during thick and thin high and low.

The AASU raises its voice every time it feels Assam is threatened by external or internal factors. Whether it is urging the central government to implement the Assam Accord, evict illegal Bangladeshis to save Assam or to protest for any injustice to its people, the AASU is the voice of Assam. It has also taken upon itself to uphold the Assamese culture and tradition and is working with the state and central government to maintain peace and unity in the state.

However it should be more vocal regarding the mayhem unfolded by extremists groups which has resulted in the loss of life of many innocent Assamese as well as Hindi speaking people. Instead of calling for bandhs to protest against issues it can resort to protest marches, dharnas etc for then people take notice of the cause behind the protests whereas bandhs not only effect the daily wage earners it also fails to register itself in the minds of the people as it becomes just another holiday for them. Bandhs also affect the state’s economy and slows down the development process of the state.

Moreover, women representation in AASU is quite negligible therefore it should take measures to ensure equal representation of female members by encouraging them.

The AASU being a student’s body has an important role to play in the lives of the student community therefore it should lead by example. It has done commendable work by recently felicitating meritorious student and therefore inspired them to achieve nobler goals.

The people of Assam have found a mouthpiece in the AASU and the future of Assam depends on these students who would carry forward the heritage of Assam by righteous means.

Well written.. The representation of lady is not so law in AASU..In different committe at district level or ancholik or branch level, there are various girl representatives. But yes in central body no girl representation is now. Moreover any student without relating any political party can be a part of AASU. We too thanx AASU as atleast for this organisation something can hope for the benefit of Assam. Even already various good and comandable works done by our loving this org, ie, AASU. Thank u to AASU too.

Road mishap in Puranigudam: 4 died

Four persons including two children died 14 others were injured after the minibus carrying them rammed into a stationary truck at Puronigudam in central Assam's Nagaon district on Thursday morning. According to police, the minibus was carrying a wedding party.Nine of the injured were sent to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital, four to the Jakhalabandha Hospital and one to Nagaon B P Civil Hospital. 9 Assam candidates clear UPSC exams

Good news. Altogether eight candidates from Assam have cleared the Civil Service Examination, 2008 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. Injured BPPF leader dies at GNRC

Gossaigaon BPPF president Birbhushan Narzary died on Monday morning at the GNRC Hospital in Guwahati where he was admitted five days ago after some unidentified miscreants attacked him in the Gossaigaon town. Hospital sources said, Narzary, the vice principal of the Tulsibeel Higher Secondary School died at around 6 in the morning.He was shot by some miscreants on April 29 on his way to the hospital and was rushed to the GNRC Hospital for better treatment. His body was sent back to Gossaigaon based family members.The incident could escalate tension in the burning BTAD areas.

Devastating fire in Guwahati; 50 houses gutted

Properties worth several lakhs gutted when a devastating fire broke out near Fancy Bazar area in Guwahati on Monday. According to information, the incident took place at the Guwahati Police Reserve at around 11 in the morning. The reason has yet to be ascertained but it is suspected to be due to electric short circuit. As the fire broke out several LPG cylinders exploded and thus the fire was rapidly spreading in the area. As many as twelve fire tenders were called to bring the situation under control. These fire tenders took almost two and a half hours to douse the fire. The extent of damage has yet to be ascertained. Encounter in Golaghat; ULFA cadre killed

An ULFA rebel died, another injured during a heavy gun battle wit security forces in upper Assam's Golaghat district on Sunday afternoon. The deceased was identified ass Deep Gogoi from Bhojo in Sivasagar.According to information, acting on a tip off, police, army and CPRF jawans conducted a search operation at the residence of one Purna Saikia of Biya Koruwa gaon in the afternoon and thus the encounter came up. The ULFA rebels started firing at the army and CRPF jawans. When retaliated by police, army and CRPF jawans, one of the rebels tried to lob a grenade at them but it went off by accident and thus he died on the spot. Fear still haunts Maibong villagers; toll mounts to 4

A day after the deadly attack, the tiny village at Maibong in North Cachar is grappling with fear. The death toll in the Dimasa village at Yah has reached 4 and more than 40 houses were gutted when some unidentified armed men started indiscriminate firing at the villagers in the after on Tuesday. Swine flu: CM reviews preparedness

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday reviewed the preparedness to tackle swine flu in view of the spread of the deadly virus beyond Mexico. Official sources said Gogoi held talk with his top ranked officers at his chambers and has instructed them to remain alert. The meeting further decided to start an awareness drive among the people. Oct 30 serial blasts accused killed in Kokrajhar encounter

Two NDFB rebels and prime accused in the Guwahati serial blasts on october 30 died at an encounter with a police and Army Kokrajhar district on Wednesday.
