Hundreds of KMSS activists staged demonstration in front of the Sarupeta outpost on Monday in protest against police excess on their fellows in Guwahati on Monday. They further raised slogans demanding land patta for the landless lot in Bajali subdivision.

In a bizarre incident that sends shocwaves across the state, a villager lost his life at the hands of his wife and son in Barpeta district on Thursday. The incident was beleived to have taken place at Kaharpara vlage in Niyananda area where 55 year old Kalicharan Kalita was beaten up to death by his wife Lalita Kalita and son Montu. Another body found in Beki

Yet another body was recovered in the river Beki on Sunday a week after the BTAD bloodletting.Local residents in Kolgaschia recovered the body of a minor boy in the morning to be fished out with the help of police.With this, the BTAD toll have gone up to 47. At least seven other people are still remaining traceless.

Yet another body was fished out from the Beki river in Baksa district on Friday.Local residents in Narayanguri spotted the body of a minor boy in the morning and fished out it from the river.With this, the BTAD toll has gone up to 43. Nine others are still missing. The SDRF search operation has not been able to recover more bodies.

One after another bodies seem to have surfaced in BTAD areas a week after it was rocked by a string of violence.Local residents in the worst-hit Narayanguri recovered the body of a minor boy from the Beki river in Moinabri.Identified as Rockybul Hussain, the 3 year old boy was remaining traceless since Friday last.With this, the death toll in the BTAD violence has gone up to 40. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday confirmed 39 deaths before the recovery of the body.

Sarbhog tense after shops set on fire

An uneasy calm seems to have been prevailing in Barpeta district after unidentified miscreants set on fire at least 15 business establishments on Thursday.The incident took place at Sorbhog area in the wee hours the miscreants burnt down 10 shops in Chahpur area while the same group of miscreants set on fire 5 other shops in Pampara area.Some of the miscreants further burnt down a cowshed and a heap of straw in the area.Police officials have arrived in the spot and the investigation is going on. Shocking indeed: Gogoi in Narayanguri

Search operation on Beki river

SDRF jawans are on a vigorous operation in search of the 12 missing people who were believed to have been dumped to the Beki river after killing by miscreants at Khagrabari in Narayanguri area in Baksa district.The search operation began at 9 in the morning from Khagrabari village, the epicenter of the mayhem where miscreants set on fire 50 houses after indiscriminate firing on Friday night.Women and children in large number were shot dead when they ran out of the homes. The Baksa district administration has a list of 22 people. One after another body seems to have been floating on the river Beki. Four bullet riddled bodies were fished from the river on Wednesday morning.Of them, two were fished out from Dummunighat area while one each in Balipara and Goroimari.The bodies were seen floating on the river.SDRF is expected to fish out more bodies in the search operation being launched on Wednesday. With this, the toll in BTAD bloodletting has gone up to 42.The bodies are believed to be the residents of Khagrabari in Salbari sib division in Baksa district where armed militants set on fire 50 houses after indiscriminate firing on Friday midnight.

The Baksa district administration is all set to deploy SDRF at the Beki river on Wednesday in search of 15 people who went missing on Friday.Official sources told Assam Times that the operation will start in the morning at Khagrabari area in the Salmbari sub division.These people including a 3 month old baby have gone traceless when a group of 40-50 miscreants unleashed a reign of terror on Friday night.The armed miscreants arrived in the village and set on fire the huts while some of them started indiscriminate firing at the villagers who were running out of their homes to get rid of the danger.The miscreants were believed to have shot dead some of them near the Beki river.
