Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati established first ever Arya Samaj Mandir in Mumbai in the year 1875. Arya Samaj Guwahati chapter is one among such institutions spread all over India in 1932-35, when two Vedic scholars, Late Parmeswar Kakati and Late Robindra Nobis, first attempted to promote Vedic philosophy among the people of Northeast region. Finally, in 1964-65, the Guwahati Arya Samaj was established at Dr B Baruah Road, with active participation of various persons of the society like Late Sushil Das, Late RR Taneja, Late NR Taneja, Late Dr Narain Das, Late Om Prakash Anand, Shri B L Saboo, HR Arya, SC Arya and others took great efforts to build and help in growth of this institution. Continuing with the momentum a DAV School was established in 1969 and thereafter many Arya Samaj, DAV Schools and Dayanand Seva Sangh were formed from time to time.
Arya Samaj, Guwahati is going to celebrate its golden jubilee from February 14-16, 2014. Arya Samaj observes various Vedic parvas and organizes social activities throughout the year. In the last year, cataract screening camps, medical camps, flood relief camps and yoga camps have been organized from time to time. In order to promote Vedas, it has published various books and periodicals like Purvottar Arya Vani, Bhakti Sangeetam, Rig-Veda Bhashya etc. Some of these literatures are published in Assamese and other languages also.
The Golden jubilee celebration of Guwahati Arya Samaj is to begin with procession from Arya Samaj Mandir at 7 a.m.to GMCH auditorium at Bhangagarh and conclude at 1.30 on February 16. Senior journalist and former editor of The Sentinel news paper, DN Bezbaruah, Dr Dipak Sharma, vice chancellor of Sanskrit University, Nalbari, Dr Aruna Vedalankar, Teacher, Shillong and Pt Bhishma Arya, Bhajan Upadeshak from UP will grace the occasion. According to Arya Samaj, Guwahati president, Sudarshan Sood, 26 Arya Samaj from North East, seven DAV schools and seven Dayanand Vidya Niketan schools have to join the celebration to make it a great success.
