Silpi Divas celebrated

Assam celebrated Silpi Divas across the state to commemorate the death anniversary of Jyotiprasad Agarwalla on Friday. Cultural functions, Jyoti Sangeet competitions and seminars were organized in many places to mark the occasion. The central function at took place in Tezpur, the birthplace of the first Assamese film maker.

Farewell to Pranab Mukherjee

Zeliang clears floor test

A special assembly session in Nagaland on  Friday confirmed TR zeliang’s strength two days after the former NPF leader took oath as chief minister again. Altogether 46 legislators from NPF, BJP along with a few independents voted for TR Zeliang on the floor while 11 legislators opposed thr motion at the end of a high voltage political drama in the north eastern state. New short film: Obosheshot

Kavind to take over as President

Bihar governor Ram Nath Kavind is preparing to succeed Pranab Mukherjee a day after the NDA presidential candidate won the polls defeating the united opposition candidate Meira Kumar on Thursday. Kevind, who is putting in his papers as the Governor of Bihar is expected to take oath as the country’s 14th President. Assan chief minister Sarbanabda Sonowal and his counterparts in the north eastern states have congratulated Kavind who would be sworn in shortly.  Kevind got 65.65% votes in the presidential elections where 99% legislators participated in the polls held on Monday.

Zeliang facing floor test

A special assembly session in Nagaland is set to confirm the strength of TR Zeliang who took oath as chief minister at the end of a high voltage political drama in the north eastern state. The special session is taking place in Kohima at 9.39 in the morning where the new chief minister is sure of support from 48 legislators in the house of 60. The Naga Peoples’ Front, which expelled Zeliang has already issued a single lune whip not to support the former leader who poached a section of legislators to resume as the chief minister a couple of months later.  Governor PB Acharya will administer oath to the new cabinet ministers on Friday evening after clearing the floor test.

Career counseling programme held in Chayagaon

An educational and career awareness programme was organised by All Rabha Students Union (ARSU), Chayagaon Anchalik Committee at Satpara High School on 19th July. Ranjan K Baruah, Career Mentor from North East Youth Foundation was the key resource person. Presidential poll: Counting on

The new elected President of India would be formally announced on Thursday as the counting of votes is going on. According to the returning officer, the ballots of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are counting and then ballots from the states would be taken for counting. According to the Election Commission, the results would be available at 5 in the evening before a formal announcement. NDA have favoured Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind while UPA, Left, Trinamool Congress, AAP have voted for former Lok Sabha Speaker and Congress leader Meira Kumar.

Presidential polling ends

The nationwide presidential polls ended on Monday afternoon in Assam where the legislators voted to elect the successor of Pranab Mukherjee who demits very soon. The voting began at 8 in the morning where chief minister Sarbanabda Sonowal casted his vote  along with other legislators which ended at 4 in the afternoon. More misery is in store for Lakimpur. The people in this flood-hit district are bracing up for yet another chapter of woes thanks to North Eastern Electric Power Corporation. The hydel power generating unit is preparing to release more excess waters from it's Ranganadi dam a week after the exercise claimed at least six people triggering no less anger and protest.
