Dispur is prepared to operationalise 181 helpline exclusively for women in distress.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi writes to Chief Secretary PP Verma asking him to instruct the state Home and Political Department to work out an action plan to operationalise the 181 helpline facility for women as it was in other states like Delhi.

Gogoi directed that the helpline be operationalised in consultation with the Assam Police, Health and Family Welfare, Assam State Disaster Management Authority and other line departments. Escalating tension along Assam-Mizoram border

Guwahati: After a brainstorming session in Guwahati on Thursday Congress, CPI, CPM have agreed to fight unitedly to keep BJP at bay in the 2021 assembly polls. Congress opposes Madrassa closure move

Guwahati: The BJP-led government's move to close down around 1200 Madrassas hits a major hurdle with Congress vehemently opposing it. State Congress president Ripun Bora said that the party/s position was very clear and that they will keep opposing the move. Bora further called the decision unconstitutional and that the government cant take such a decision in a secular country.
