181 helpline for women

Dispur is prepared to operationalise 181 helpline exclusively for women in distress.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi writes to Chief Secretary PP Verma asking him to instruct the state Home and Political Department to work out an action plan to operationalise the 181 helpline facility for women as it was in other states like Delhi.

Gogoi directed that the helpline be operationalised in consultation with the Assam Police, Health and Family Welfare, Assam State Disaster Management Authority and other line departments. Guwahati: Police have detained a youth in Dispur on the basis of a complaint lodged by Zubeen Garg who alleged an attempt of attack on him by a group of goons on Wednesday night. Guwahati: A lower court in Guwahati on Wednesday asked Kolkata based intellectual Garga Chatterjee to surrender before it by August 27. The court has issued the order after the court was apprised that Chatterjee who made defamatory remarks against first Ahom king Chaulung Sukafa. The court further slammed the failure of Kolkata police to arrest the Bangla Pakhya leader even after a nonbailable warrant was issued.
