Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. You will be happy to know recently a book by me on the life & events in Majuli was published by Partridge India of Penguin-Random House Group :"An Insane Moon". Ashok Saikia dies after surgery

Ashok Saikia, one of the top bureaucrats during the Atal Behari Vajpayee government serving then as a Joint Secretary in the PMO and later executive director of the Asian Development Bank in Manila in July 2004, died in New Delhi this morning after a heart surgery. Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Guwahati Bandh Hits Normal Life

A 24-hour Kamrup Bandh was called by the co-ordination committee of different trade bodies and chambers of commerce protesting the recent bomb blast at Athgaon. The bandh has evoked good response within Guwahati as well as the suburbs.
