Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. Tezpur Congress candidate Bhupen Bora on Wednesday dared BJP and NDFB-S to kill him by April 7.Addressing a poll rally at Napam area, Bora reiterated his allegations of the party’s nexus with NDFB-S to kill him. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday said that Akhil Gogoi has secret understanding to defeat Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Talking to reporters after attending a poll rally in Sivasagar, Gogoi said that both Modi and Akhil Gogoi won’t be able to dislodge his party. “Let them do these. Let them take on me and our party. We won’t allow it to happen,” said Gogoi.    The chief minister’s comment assumes significance a day after the KMSS president pledged to go all out against him and Congress in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.  Akhil Gogoi urged the voters to even prefer BJP to Congress.
Police seized 84 bottles of foreign liquor in Guwahati on Tuesday citing it a case of violation of modal code of conduct. sources told Assam Times that the seizure was conducted in Khanapara when a person was carrying these commodities. The Gauhati High Court on Tuesday adjourned the move to register cases against Chief Minister and revenue minister in connection with the Pranab Boro self immolation case.The high court intervention came after the court heard a petition of the government challenging the additional chief judicial magistrate’s order to file a case against the duo acting on the complaint of the victim’s wife.The court, however, has issued notice to the ACJM in Kmarup in this regard and decided to hear the entire case after the bihu.Notably, ACJM has directed Dispur police to file case against chief minister Tarun Gogoi and revenue minister Pritivi Majhi on the basis of Purnima Boro’s allegation that the duo...
Tarun Gogoi is defeated. That’s the main line of what Akhil Gogoi told reporters on Tuesday a day after he was released on bail.Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, the KMSS leader said that he and his colleagues were tortured during police custody.He said that ruling party will have to give heavy price of it in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Finally, Tezpur police have registered a case against Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma acting on the complaint of making communal statement in a recent poll rally.The case bearing No 266/14 has been registered in Borhat police station on Tuesday. The case has been registered under Sec 171(F)/ IPC and Sec 125 under PRA.Notably, Dr Sarma in a recent poll rally said that Muslim blood spills in the water pipes in Gujarat forcing BJP to move the election commission.The election commission examined some other complaints against Gautom Roy, Akon Bora and Pradyut Bordoloi. But no case was registered against them.
