Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.
A 24-hour Kamrup Bandh was called by the co-ordination committee of different trade bodies and chambers of commerce protesting the recent bomb blast at Athgaon. The bandh has evoked good response within Guwahati as well as the suburbs. The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Asom Gana Parishad had also supported the bandh.Shops and commercial activities inside the city limits remained closed and the public transport system was near non-existent with a skeletal bus service run by the ASTC.The bandh that started at six in the morning witnessed a dharna on the MG Road at Fancy Bazar, where a good number of representatives of civil society were present.
