Husband and in-laws sentenced

The Assistant Sessions Judge of Golaghat, R.L. Das, yesterday sentenced the mother, the son and the daughter to undergo rigorous imprisonment for six years each and to pay a fine of Rs.2000/- each in default they are to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for six months each for abetting the suicide of Anjumoni Mudoi, who was married to in the family. The convict Joon Saikia along with his mother Khiroda Saikia and sister Moon Saikia had forced  Anjumoni Mudoi to take the drastic step by inflicting inhuman mental and physical torture upon her.

Anjumoni who was married to Joon Saikia of Habigaon in Borpathar in Golaghat district ended her life on 12th April 2010 by hanging herself in the bedroom of her in-law’s house. During the postmortem a suicide note addressed to her mother was recovered from her body in which she had accused her husband, her mother in law and sister in law to be the culprits behind her decision to end her life. Accordingly the Golaghat police arrested all the accused under section 306 and 34 of Indian Penal Code vide Golaghat PS Case No. 199/10. The case proceeded through the regular legal formalities and after a legal battle of over 3 years the court delivered the final verdict which have been have welcomed by people at large.

Five car lifters including two women were arrested by Bokakhat Police at Rajabari on NH-37 last night and a Winger (AS-13/C-2429)had been recovered from them. The suspense over the abduction of businessman Kailash Ginoria came to an end with the recovery of his dead body at the tributary of Mikang River in Lungsang Basti under Bhandari Police Station in Nagaland located about three kilometers away from Merapani at around 9.30 am in the morning.
