An unusual incident occurred on Sunday at Namsang village in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh, about 12 KM from Deomali, when the labourers of Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) were digging a bore-well. A huge fire emanated from the bore-well after reaching a certain depth. The PHED Assistant Engineer then informed the Sub Divisional Office (SDO) at Deomali about the strange incident. SDO G. Singpho immediately swung into action and called up all the relevant departments like fire-brigade. He asked the AE, PHED to contact Oil India Limited (OIL) in Assam. Accordingly, the PHED AE informed the Oil India. The Oil India officials said that there was no need for alarm adding that the fire would douse in two or three days.
It may be mentioned here that the oil explorers have confirmed that oil reserve is present in some pockets of Deomali areas. The local MLA Wangki Lowang also expressed his surprise over the hitherto unseen incident and asked the PHED personnel to spare no effort in extinguishing the fire to allay the fear of the villagers. Deomali is adjacent to Joypore and Naharkatia in Assam so, presence of oil is not ruled out.
