HSLC result: Rahul Kalita to opt for engineering

A festive atmosphere prevailed among the teachers, students, employees of Raha Higher Secondary School and the residents as Rahul Kalita of Raha H.S.School brought glory to the region securing eighth position among the toppers in the H.S.L.C examination held this year. He secured 93.57% with letter marks in all the subjects.

When Rahul was congratulated for his success by this correspondent of the Assam Tribune , Rahul said, " I was confident of getting above 90 per cent marks but was not sure of holding eight position." Rahul studied 15 hours a day to bring a brilliant results to his school. " The teachers of our school and my parents have been a great help for me and it is their blessings which helped me to bag this position ", Rahul said.

Rahul secured 561 out of 600 marks : MIL (85), ENG (93), GSc (97), GMath (100), SS (90), Adv Math (10). When asked about his dream, Rahul expressed his desire to become an engineer in future.

Rahul is the only son of his teacher parents Gajen Kalita, a Maths teacher of Raha H.S.School and Swarna Lata Bhuyan of Charaibahi Girls' H.S. School.His parents expressed happiness at the success of their son and said that they want their son to be an honest man of the society in future.

Rahul was felicitated, soon after the result declared, by Manjyoti Bora , Chairman ,Raha Town Committee , Mridul Hazarika , President, AASU,Nagaon district, Dibyajyoti Bora, President , Raha Block Youth Congress, and the NSUI, Raha unit.

It may be mentioned here that Raha H.S.School , a govt. H.S.School established in 1905, has been securing positions in H.S.L.C results since 1949. In the year 1949 Prafulla Bordoloi of this school secured 7th position, in 1974 Himangshu Dey secured 1st position, in 1977 Arunagshy Dey secured 2nd position, in 2002 Bhaswati Hazarika secured 7th position, in 2006 Dibendu Hazarika secured 10th position, in 2009 Rishav Hazarika secured 19th position and this year 2013 Rahul kalita secured 8thposition from this Assamese medium school.

Another Nagaon accused held in Jagiroad

The Nagaon police have arrested yet another youth in connection with the recent incident where a tractor dealer along with his associated assaulted a group of former rebels as they were raising funds to feed to flood hit people.  Identified as Manoranjan Das alias Manoj, the elder brother of the main accused Raju Das was caught in Jagiroad on Tuesday wee hours.  Police interrogation is going on and he is expected to be produced before the chief judicial magistrate in the afternoon.

Biker dead in Roha mishap

A biker died on the spot when his two wheelers rammed into a stranded truck in Raha on Monday.  Identified as Hirakjyoti Pathak, he was on his way to home in Kampur and as he reached Kakotigaon area, his speedy vehicle rammed into the truck.  Local residents and police rushed him to the hospital where had was declared brought dead.

Torch rally to warn anti-national gang

Normal life in Raha  in the central Assam district of Nagaon remained paralyzed  on Monday following a 12 hour local bandh call by the former rebels in protest against the recent attack on a few of their colleagues at Panigaon.  Roads in this entire sub urban area wore a deserted look from 5 in the morning for 12 hours as vehicles refused to ply. Akhil arrest triggers massive protest

The Tezpur police have arrested Akhil Gogoi when the influential peasant leader was leading a huge protest in the Sonitpur district headquarters demanding land part as for the landless lot.  Barely one hours after the KMSS leader was arrested his fans and activists hit the streets in many places demanding his unconditional release paralyzing traffic movement on the road.  In Doboka, KMSS leaders in large numbers spilled to the roads in protest against Gogoi’s arrest. Normal life in Chapormukh area in the central Assam district of Nagaon comes to a grinding halt on Sunday following a local bandh call by a few organizations in protest against the recent attack on former rebels at Panigaon.  Roads in this area are remaining deserted as vehicles are off from the roads. Shops and markers are not opening anywhere in the entire area under the impact of the bandh call which began at 6.00 in the morning.  Apprehending stray incidents, the security forces ate fanning in the area from early in the morning. Former rebels threaten to resume armed conflict

 A huge crowd in Nagaon on Friday warned of a fierce armed struggle to counter the attack on the indigenous people by s section of the outsiders. Speakers after speakers in the massive meetings of thr former ULFA rebels strongly advocated a full circle armed struggle to ensure the rights of the indigenous people over the state’s resources. ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa said that the need of the hour is an armed struggle to restore the rights of the indigenous lots in Assam. “We are running out of the patience.
