The first Book Fair of Nazira organised by the National Book Trust in association with the civil administration of Nazira and the NGO Probaah from March 23 to 31 at Nazira Gandhi Maidan ends successfully. 125 book stalls participated in the fair and several seminers were held on different topics. Senior Journalist of NDTV Sandip Phukan said that Indian culture is a book culture and our society carries a great book reading tradition since the ancient Baidic period, delivering his lecture on the topic of "Talking books Linking minds". Phukan said that regular reading habit, constant scrutiny and active social sense is the feedback for success of all media persons. Talking on print and electronic media he said that runnig for TRP and instant competition is sometimes doing wrong for TV Channels. According to Deep Saikia, secretary of NBT, Nazira book fair is a successfull experience for the all the participants.

Veteran Congress leader in Nazira Tonkeshwar Saikia breath his last at his own residence of Nazira Simaluguri on Thursday. He was 81 and survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter. Saikia, the elder brother of former Assam chief minister Hiteswar Saikia died of prolonged illness. Many political leaders, organizations and individuals have deeply condoled his death. 71th Independence Day was observed with traditional gaity and flavour in different places of Nazira Sub division. But it is regret to say that due to the negligence of the teachers of the 310 No Molagaon government L.P.
