Prithibi brings ‘Swadhinata’ on Women’s Day
The essence of a woman is very difficult to be comprehended as a woman is the origin of child and she is the core of the family. Unfortunately, due to the age old customs and prejudices prevalent in our society, she is made to feel inferior and gradually one perceived her to be weak. Injustice and discrimination against women started to occur and in modern times it reached an alarming rate and hence a situation arose where it became imperative to take measurers to prevent such atrocities towards women, argued a number of social activist belonging to Prithibi, an NGO for women and children on the recent Women’s Day on 8th of March 2013.
Prithibi, the NGO is working for welfare of women and children under the guidance of Baharul Saikia, an eminent advocate of Gauhati High Court as president and Dr Akashitora Saikia, an actress and social activist as secretary. Prithibi has been providing free counseling to women in dire straits and helping them to rehabilitate back in the mainstream society.
Prithibi always strives for the betterment and upliftment of women in society. It always tries to generate awareness on the issues hindering the progress of women and as well eradicate them. So with this mission on the occasion of recent Women’s Day along with a few student associations came forward with a unique interactive event “Swadhinata’ celebrating the spirit of womanhood, which was held at Dighali Pukhuri in Guwahati.
Eminent musician and singer J P Das has been associated with Prithibi and its works. He has been weighed down with issues and the problems of the women victimized in our society. Instead of just showing empathy or sympathy, he decided to make his contributions in own unique way. He went out of his way and composed a song to mark the occasion. A number of popular artists performed on the occasion. In addition to it there was an interactive session between women, who were victims of discrimination and the audience. There was an effort to convey a feeling of the pain and the journey they had taken to fight for their rights that had been bestowed upon them by the Constitution of India. The whole event was compeered by Dr Akshitora Saikia and RJ Angarag. A host of other celebrities from cinema and music also graced the occasion to support the altruistic endeavor of Prithibi.
