Train derailed, passenger stranded

Hundreds of passengers traveling by the Up Agartala Express from Agartala to Lumding were stranded for several hours at Jatinga Railway Station in Dima Hasao following derailment of two bogies of the said train at about 5 am of Saturday. Due to derailment, the track was partially damaged and no one was injured but the passengers were to face utter inconvenience. Later, after detaching the affected bogies, the traine was sent towards Lumding with the passengers.

Though the derailments or train accident in this Lumding- Badarpur Hill section has become a frequent occurrence, but the Railway authority seemed to be indifferent, people alleged. Few days back only, four compartments of Down Barak Valley were derailed in between Mailongdisa and Harangajao due to which several passengers were injured and again, the Hill Queen was also derailed near Daotuhaja Station.

The conscious citizens of Dima Hasao believed that the poor maintenance of the existing MG track might be the cause of frequent train accident. It is learnt that the axel of the said bogies was detached while the train was on move and damaged the points (Rail junction) following which the compartments derailed.

The on duty Assistant Station Master of Jatinga Sri Sudarshan Biswas talking to this correspondent, said only after proper investigation the cause of derailment could be ascertained but he understands that the dynamo belt which remains fastened below the compartment was some how removed  and fixed with track.

Whatever the cause of the derailment the Railway Authority assigned but is true that, the railway authority should give more importance for the proper maintenance of this existing MG line since it has been the life line of the Southern Assam, Tripura, Mizoram including Dima Hasao, the people opined.
