Me-Dam-Me-Phi at Delhi on January 27

Association of Tai Ahoms (ATA), NCR is observing Me-Dam-Me-Phi to show respect to the departed ancestors and remember their contribution to society on January 27 at the Community Centre, DLF Phase I, Gurgaon. On this occasion, offerings will be made by Bailungs followed by a cultural presentation and games for children. The event will culminate with a traditional Assamese lunch. To commemorate the occasion, a magazine, “Pulin Puthao” will be released.

A committee to observe the event and to undertake other socio-cultural activities in the coming years has already been formed and the Committee is in the process of registering the Association with the relevant authorities and a formal announcement to this effect shall follow soon.

Annada Gohain, a resident of Kharghuli, breathed her last on 19th September 2011 at a private hospital in Guwahati at the age of 81 years. She retired as Additional Director (Agriculture) under Assam Government in 1987. In 1948, she graduated with Chemistry Honours from Cotton College. In yet another bizarre incident that sends shockwave across the state, a man beheaded his wife in Dibrugarh district on Sunday. The accused, Polit Paik of Sessa Maoidamoni village under Barbaruah police station is believed to have killed his wife alleging extra martial affair. After killing his wife Pinky, he surrendered before the police. He said he caught his wife Pinky alias Rekha Paik in a compromising position with her lover.
