In the NATIONAL SUB-JUNIOR SWIMMING COMPITION held in Goa from 21-06-07, Sagar, a resident of Assam established a new national record in 50 meters Breast Stroke. Sagar clocked a time of 40.36 seconds. The previous record was 40.66 seconds. He also won a silver medal in 50 meters Butterfly in a time of 33.91 seconds. Apart from it, his partner Biplab Kumar reached the final of 50 meters Breast Stroke.

The “Azim Hazarika Suworoni Silpi Bota”, introduced by Sivasagar Press Club in the memory of famous journalist Azim Hazarika will be given this year to the Bollywood singer from Assam , Zubeen Garg. The award will be given to him on 21st July,2007 at Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati. AASU General Secretary, Mr. Tapan Kr. Gogoi has accepted the proposal to be the chief guest there. Honourable Education minister, Mr. Ripun Baruah has also been invited as the Guest of Honour.
After the famous “Ambubachi Mela” came to an end in Kamakhya, 17 of its devotees got unwell due to unhygienic food consumed there. The Guwahati Police and the Guwahati Municipality board have taken responsibility for the incident and admitted the patients at The Guwahati Medical College immediately. Doctors commented that due to improper foods being consumed during the Mela, the patients feel seriously ill. Ironically, most of these devotees who feel ill had consumed liquor on the previous night and this also added to their problem
On 25th June , 2007, a dangerous fire cropped up at a godown of plastics in the Bahadur Gaonbura lane, Gar-Ali. M/s Shree Furnitures of the same lane had rented the house from Mr. Zamir Rehman to be used a godown. Many plastics furniture’s, Steel Almirahs, and other furniture alongwith other valuables adding upto a total worth of Rs 15 lakhs were burnt to ashes. The incident took place at about 10:40 am and within seconds it spread all around. The fire was finally extinguished at 3.15 pm in the evening and as many as 11 fire brigades had to be deployed. No casualities have been reported

He will be performing at a Cultural Event of the Assamese people living there. The new producer of HENGUL THEATER Mr. Sankalpajeet Hazarika is planning a totally new look on the stage for the theater which coincides with the 22nd Anniversary of the Theater. Apart from changing the theme of the play, its acting, the settings, etc., Mr. Hazarika is also planning to give a totally fresh and different outlook to the musical side by roping in Zubeen Garg, Assam sensational star in Bollywood. Zubeen would be the new music director of the plays. The plays where Zubeen will work are “PRIYAR PRIYO”, by producer-director Munnin Baruah, “MUR PREM TUMAR SINDOOR” by Abhijeet Sharma and “HRIDOY AKHON NOI” by Dr. Arup Borthakur.
Vishwanathan Anands contribution to putting India in the Chess Map is noteworthy. He is a true champion whose feats in the sports arena gets overshadowed by the India Cricket team whose only claim to fame at present seems to be controversy. Anand is also trying to contribute to the game by popularizing the game in every nook and corner of India. Recently he has started a Chess Academy in Agartala in association with National Institute of Information Technology. The academy was inaugurated by Anand and the Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar. The minds Champions Academy will train students between 6-15 year of age and would cover 28 government schools in the state. A laudable effort indeed...
Under the initiation of SFI and IPTA, a daylong function was held at Jorhat District Library on 20th June 07 in honour of Bishnu Rabha. The function started with the hoisting of flags of the association which was followed by “SHAHID TARPAN”. The famous writer, director and producer Mr. Shatish Pathak’s drama “AIIR NAT” was enacted by actors from the Associations. Apart from it, there were various other competitions like “Rabha Sangeet protijugita”, dance competition on the basis of Rabha Sangeet, drawing competition, etc. was also held as a sign of Honour to him.
The Jorhat Municipal Board got a new Chairman, Prasanta Bora. The post of the Chairman fell vacant when the previous incumbent, Mrs. Deepti Hazarika had to step down in view of stiff opposition by around 13 ward commissioners. Jorhat Municipal Board presently is run by the Congress Government
