Legal Aid Day obseved at Raha

A legal awareness meet was held here at Basic Training Centre, Raha on the occasion of National Legal Service Day on November 9. The meet was organized by International Computers, a computer instititute and an NGO, in association with Legal Aid Centre , Nagaon.


Dr Nirala Devi, Principal, Basic Training Centre , presided over the meeting which was attended by a large number of public.


Ganga Ballav Goswami, distinguished lawyer of Nagaon in his speech introduced the public, attended the meeting,with the Domestic Violence Act, Right to Education Act, Child Labour Act and free legal help available for all by various government agencies and NGO’s. He said that every woman can feel safe if she has a good knowledge about the Domestic Violence Act. He further said that it is everyone’s duty to report to the administration or police station if anybody or any organisaton is found violating the Child Labour Act.


Kumud Chandra Bezbarua, advocate, in his speech, said that Domestic Violence Act does not help only the woman class of the society but the man too. He urged all to get the benefits of Right to Education Act so that no child could remain illiterate. He said that anybody,if wish, could take legal help free of cost from New Building, Nagaon Court, Room no.24.


The meet was also attended by Kumud Chandra Goswami, Legal advisor, International Computers, Rupak Sharma, Co-ordinator, Legal Aid Centre, Nagaon besides the employees of International Computers and Trainee Teachers of the Basic Training Centre, Raha.

I was also present in that meeting. Almost people present in that meeting satisfied by getting solution of various legal problem. that meeting was realy helpfull for us.We need more like this type of legal awareness camp.

Acting on a tip off , Raha police on Tuesday arrested one person for trying to extort Rs 8 lakh from one Kanak Nath of Sariohtoli village under Raha revenue circle. According to police, the arrested Pranjal Deka had nexus with Tiwa insurgency group Tiwa Liberation Army ( TLA ) and came to Raha on an extortion drive at the instance of their leader Bidyut Amseng.
Former  Congress  minister and MLA of  Batadrava constituency  Goutam Bora’s  Inova vehicle ( AS01 AK-1597 ) met with an accident on Sunday  noon at Dighaliati area at Raha. A 29-year-old married woman was murdered at her residence at Uttar Petboha village under Raha P.S on Thursday night. Sharp weapon injury marks were found on the neck, breast, and stomach  of the victim,Paree Saikia. When the neighbours reached the spot, the victim was lying on the bed and she had deep slits on her throat. During the investigation by police, it was discovered that nothing was looted from the house, which led them to suspect a personal dispute as the reason. The husband of the woman was not at home when the murder took place, neighbours said. Tapan Das , Headmaster , Nelipar Primary School and a former leader of Raha unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU)  who actively participated in Assam agitation passed away at his house at Chaparmukh following prolonged illness on Tuesday. He was 54. A popular personality of the area, he was loved and respected by all sections of people for his amiable disposition. He leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter. A pall of gloom descended at Raha and Chaparmukh as soon as the news of his demise spread. Different organisations, including Raha AASU unit have mourned Das’s demise.

The body of a man was found on a train that arrived at Chaparmukh junction from Tinisukia on Sunday, police said. The body, found under mysterious condition, was identified as Kiranjyoti Hazarika of Philobari, Tinisukia district. According to Chaparmukh railway police, the deceased was on his way to Guwahati from Tinisulia by the Brahmaputra mail. The cause of the death is yet not confirmed.
