Suspected Adivasi militants strike with a powerful explosion on a railway tract in Bokajan in Karbi Anglong district damaging the Kamrup Express on Tuesday.
According to information, it was an improvised explosive device which missed the Kamrup Express target and exploded at Gharialdubi near Bokajan.
The explosion took place when the Dibrugarh bound Kamrup Express was at a stone’s throw distance. The blast has left the train driver injured besides partially damaging the engine room with window panes with two computers in the driver’s room.
The driver is said to be out of danger. Immediately after the incident, top ranked police, civil and railway offiials rushed to the spot and the train was held up for more than two hours as the tracks were also damaged. Later on these have been repaired and train services have been restored.
Notably, the Adivasi National Liberation Army (ANLA) militants has recently threatened to strike following the mob violence in Beltola area in the city.
The extremists outfit further warned the all adivasi MPs and MLAs in Assam of dire consequences if they fail to step down in the aftermath of the November 24 violence.
The ANLA also threatened more attacks on the tea gardens on tea gardens and asked the tea garden people to boycott the upcoming panchayat elections.
A documentary covering various salient features of the situation prevailing at Indo-Bangla (Assam) border areas, will be shown at Guwahati Press Club on Friday at 2 pm. The man behind the 17 minute Audio–visual, advocate Upamanyu Hazarika will be present on the occasion. The Supreme Court advocate will also interact with the scribes on the relevant issues.
An all party peace meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner conference hall in Korajhar today to discuss on the prevailing law and order situation and other issues pertaining to the district.
It was chaired by the Kokrajhar DC Nitin Khade, representatives from various organizations like ABSU, AAMSU, ABMSU, AKRSU, Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Santali Sahitya Sabha, All Bodo Women Welfare Federation(ABWWF), BPF, senior citizens and members from various NGOs participated and discussed on various issues pertaining to the district.
The meeting opined the need of holding such peace meeting at Circle and Block level in different parts of the district involving leaders and representatives of various communities to build confidence among the people.The DC directed the Kokrajhar District Information and Public Relation Officer (DIPRO) to organize peace meeting at the respective Circle offices.
The DC also said with the situation getting normal since the last couple of days the ongoing night curfew has been withdrawn from tonight.
