Two sons of Haflong MLA and former minister Govinda Chandra Langthasa escaped a broad day light bid on life by a hair’s breath on Thursday.
According to information, a driver of his convoy was left dead and two security personnel have been injured in the attack by some suspected Black Widow militants.
The militants ambushed at Mr Langthasa’s family convoy on the way to Guwahati as soon as it reached the spot, at around 12-30 noon, at a distance from 16 km from Haflong.
The militants, started indiscriminate firing leaving no chance for the security personnel to retaliate immediately.
The driver was left spot dead but the security guard and the two sons managed to escape unhurt.
Top ranked police and civil officials rushed to the spot and started investigation but no one has so far been picked up by the police. But no militant group has so far claimed the responsibility for the ambush.
Notably, Mr Langthasa who contested from Haflong in the just concluded North Cachar Hills Council polls, was defeated with his son.
