Hurdles await ST status for 6 communities

he move for ST status to the Adivasis along with Moran, Matak, Koch and Ahom communities is meeting with increasing difficulties.

The BPPF(H), the coalition partners of the Tarun Gogoi Government, has made it clear and simple that the party has nothing to say against the move but in the same breath, it must not jeopardise the existing the people of this categories.

In his opinion at the all party meeting in Dsipur on Monday, the party MLA Karendra Basumatary said the government must ensure an enhanced reservation exercise before considering ST status to these communities.

Mr Basumatary further rued that the government has yet to take opinion of the existing people falling under this category before sending this proposal to the Centre.
