As a part of the social project of Darwin School of Business (DSB), U Stan group which has done activities connection with ageing and old age organized an interactive session with the members of Amar Ghor and Kasturba Gandhi Memorial Trust. U Stan group conducted survey amongst young people in the city which reveals younger individuals are more concerned about old age people but many are not taking action for the same. Interactive session was attended by Mahadev Deka, Former Mr. Universe, Dr Anirban Choudhury, Director of DSB, Ranjan K Baruah, Social Entrepreneur, representatives from Amar Ghor and Kasturba Gandhi Memorial Trust.
In his speech Mr. Mahadev deka said that passion must be there and everyone needs to do for the cause of old age protection. He said that one should start feeling for the cause from within the self. Dr Anirban Choudhury said that the term old should be replaced with wise and the talents of the elderly person must be highlighted amongst people. He was also appealing the students to take up a day or so and visit old age homes. Ranjan K Baruah was mentioning about the global statistics on elderly person. It is to be mentioned that there are more than 737 million people above the age of 60. At present 1 out of 9 in above 60 years and the same is expected to be 1 out of 5 by 2050. Out of the total population of the elderly person two thirds live in developing nations. Indian government declared 1999 as year of older person and since 1st October 1990 United Nations has declared 1st October as the day for older person. This year the theme of the day would be Longevity: shaping the future.
There was an interaction session with elder person with youth and students. There was reflection from the senior person and at the same time young people also mentioned their views. Youths were called upon to visit the old age home and organize some activities. The member of U Stan group shall continue to work on the issue and would visit various old age home of the city to have more interaction with senior people. The interactive session was moderated by Mr Baruah. There were 11 students in the group and was coordinated by Ms Neeksy Huidrom. The welcome address was given by Asha Sarma . The programme was held at DSB’s campus 1 near State Zoo on 20th June.

Dozens of people sustained injury when a passenger train jumped off the tracks in Jagiroad on Wednesday. Security forces seized a huge cache of plastic explosives from three youths who were on their way to target a power station in Dhemaji district on Saturday.According to police, the three youths, sped away on their motorcycles, when signalled to stop during a routine check near the Panbari border outpost under Gerukamukh police station.They were caught and arrested following a chase after three packets of plastic explosives, five packets of fuse wire, six fuses and daggers were found in their possession.Identified as Pranendra Wari, Nakesh Narzari and Hemkanta Narzari, they were targeting the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation at the Gerukamukh dam site.

Over 50 people have been injured when an ATSC bus overturned in the outskirt if Guwahati on Friday. The accident took place when the Assam State Transport Corporation owned bus on its way to Guwahati from Barpeta, was trying to overtake a truck when it overturned and rolled down the road to a nearby field in Nayanpur area.The condition of five injured was stated to be critical. They were admitted to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital, while the others are being treated at the Hajo Primary Health Care centre.
