A string of group clash that leaves twelve people dead, as many as one hundred people injured has forced the authority to clamp curfew in the city on Saturday. The condition of thirty is reported to be critical.
The violence began as soon as the Advasi people in large numbers were holding a rally demanding Scheduled Tribe status for the community.
The Adivasi protesters damaged as many as 150 vehicles while these were plying in the Beltola areas. Moreover, some of them vandalized some shops and markets in the area.
The angry people in general retaliated by attack and the clash left 5 people to death.
The city police sprung into action and dispersed the Adivasi people from the protest rally site. But another group further proceeded to the Khanapara areas and then to Ganeshguri areas to stop the city buses.
The public in general got angry with these Adivasi students leaders and retaliated with attack. As many as ten Adivasi students have fallen injured. The injured people have been rushed to the hospital.
The entire Beltola area has come under curfew from 12 noon. The over all situation has yet to be quelled.

The news item is rather painful.
From what I gather from eye-witnesses and other sources, a protest rally of the Adivasi Assamese was resisted by police from proceeding towards Assam Assembly. The rally turned violent, whether by agent-provocateurs or in spontaneity that I do not yet know, resulting in damage to vehicles and other properties. Then a clash ensued between the protesters and the people of that area leaving several dead and more grievously injured.
Without doing a whodunit we may infer another schism that may lead to further diminishing of the people identifying themselves as Assamese. Some of the eyewitnesses ( of them few have lost their cars to the violence) have told me that the Adivasis may have damaged cars, other properties and carried out excesses, but in terms of deaths and bodily injuries they have taken the brunt. The riff raff that indulge in all kinds of mischief and anti-social activities in that area had a field day killing and maiming with glee.
It is painful, as a civil servant has put it succinctly, that these innocent people, naive to the deceit and sophistry of the privileged ones, have always suffered since the days of Mahabharata. .... whether as Ekalavya, whether as destitute of mega-dams, whether as refugees of Bodoland movement and now in the streets of Guwahati.
I listen to the news with forebodings.

Yesterdays incident has really shocked me. Impartial of being a tribe I wholly condemn both side for this unfortunate event.Whatever I have came to know is from the electronic media and considering that as an apparent fact I would comment tribesmen ensued the clash. But it is also true that the local resident, most of them are non adivasis, vent their ire and a long cherished hatred attitude toward adivasis in a gory and beastly way. Unfortunately the local adminstration played the role of mute spectator. The tribesmen who had been involved in vandalism invite punishment but it is not certainly the way. It will distance people from each other. The looser will be tribal community. Rather than inviting support for the cause the incident has unfotunate event. For the God's sake, if anyone is reading this please don't let this happen again.

What ever I learnt is only through the Electronic media. Its really shocking that even today we witness these barbaric acts. I believe every problem has a solution lest its a problem.
A former Meghalaya MLA died tragic a road accident at Chaygaon near Guwahati on Friday morning. According to information, the former Meghalaya legislator P D Sangma was injured at the mishap while he travelling from Shillong to Tura. The incident took place at around 11 AM. His vehicle collided with a stationary truck near Chaygaon. Sangma died on the spot, the driver, Sangma's wife and owner of the vehicle were also seriously injured. His body was rushed to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital with his injured wife and driver .

Union minister for DONER, panchayat, sports and youth welfare Mani Shankar Aiyar has lamented the lack of audience in the North East Games at Sarusajai on Friday while he was visiting the sports complex. During his visit, Mr Aiyer hoped that the north eastern region will produce more and more sports stars. During his visit, the Union minister enjoyed events of the North Easat Games and termed the North East as the birth place of sports stars. He observed that the fund from the Centre to uplift the front has not reached the sports talents. A set of policy should be there to bring the rural boys and girls to the field of sports, he said.
A devastating fire broke out the Bengali Girls’High School in city’s Pltanbazar area on Thursday in the afternoon. According to information, the authorities have yet to ascertain the cause behind the fire but has initially estimated that it has ravaged property worth one crore. Fire brigade was pressed into service to bring the situation under control. It took 2 hours to douse the fire. Details are awaited.
The ruling party which have majority in altogether 15 districts out of 19 which have gone to panchayat polls. Besides preparing to form zilla parishads in 15 districts, the Congress have majority in block level and gaon panchayats in these districts. The party has swept Darrang, Sonitpur, North Lakhimpur,Sivasagar, Jorhat, Tinsukia,Golaghat, Nagaon,Morogaon, Kamrup metro, Kamrup rural,Karimganj and Dhubri districts. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday has said Arunachal Pradesh is in the need of a set of strategies for overall development of the state. Addressing a mammoth gathering at the Indira Gandhi Park during his trip the Prime Minister announced some development projects for the state worth Rs 8000 crores including a new rail link, micro hydro projects and grid based power project to cover all border villages. He announced that the north eastern state will get a new greenfield airport in Itanagar besides airports at Passi Ghat, Along, Daporijo, Ziro and Tizu. An accidental firing rattled Itanagar early in the morning on Tursday. That too before the prime Minister’s maiden visit to the land of rising sun. According to information, a policeman on duty to guard a road through which Prime Minister motorcade was to pass, accidentally fired a bullet injuring a labourer. The injured labourer was being taken to the Guwahati hospital by the Chief Minister's helicopter.The the bullet went off accidentally from the service revolver of an Indian Reserve Battalion constable while he was posted near the Indira Gandhi Park, the venue where the Prime Minister is scheduled to address a public meeting.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is arriving in Itanagar on a two day visit to Arunachal on Thursday. During his visit, Dr Singh is schedule to lay the cornerstone of a number of major projects. Of this, the major one will be the 3,000 MW Debang Multi Purpose Hydro Electricity Project. According to NHPC officials, it is the largest in the country to be executed by the power giant. Also Dr Singh is schedule to lay the foundation stone of the Harmoti-Itanagar railway line.
